I would say it isn’t worth it forsure.
However, in my situation and what I’m being offered, it’s just barely worth it for me. I’m only gonna be working 5 days a week, sleeping in the truck for 3 and 2 full days off. I will get to finish paying off my truck with guaranteed income and low stress. Once it’s mile’ed out, we will see if the company will get me a turnpike spec company unit. Currently, they only have O/Os doing pikes until next year, then they are getting a couple company turnpike spec units.
That’s my thinking, don’t wanna quit trucking, but def don’t wanna burn myself out, chasing money and miles. (I’m #### close, already taking 2 weeks off, cause I feel like trash).

I promise you that it does not get any easier as the years go by.
From my own experience only, will suggest finding the gig that gives you the quality of life that you want and a satisfactory income.
Too many thinking that working a little harder/longer, will be the ticket. Done that
Working smarter is more effective and enjoyable over the long haul.
Those p-ricks in government will not allow you to leave the show with much left anyway.BigHossVolvo Thanks this. -
I’m taking a month off...and heading south to try the companies down there. Also, making the leap from company to o/o as I have lived in company trucks for too long for ok pay and no life OTR like how I want to live it. I love the road life but I think it’s time to do it for myself now.
what happened to Landstar and you? -
Its a whole different story down south, so many times i've tried to move there, so many times I thought about just getting a load down there and claiming asylum lol (Economic Refugee).
Being and O/O in the US is pretty amazing from what I've heard/seen, esp at Landstar or Carolina Logistics, guys working 5 days a week and taking home 3-5K USD after fuel and deductions. Just the freight you can run around St Louis MO to Kansas City MO is amazing. I think you're going to like it, and will be into a truck and loving life in 3 months.
I guess I waited to long, this last 3 weeks doing ABL, I experienced a true medical "Burnout" and my god, I thought I was gonna die (I think I did die in my sleep one night, but managed to claw my way back, cause I still had outstanding invoices owned to me lol). So I've cancelled all my contracts, turned in my ELD and parked my truck at a friends yard; no plates, no decals, no nothing. 2-3 weeks of rest/low stress/low activity. I'm on day 5, I've lost 16lbs's already, sleeping 14 hours a day (go to bed when tired, then wake up naturally). Gonna start doing tasks around the house/shop today, see if it sets off my blood pressure alarm on my Garmin watch. Anyway, I have less than zero motivation now to do OTR; EVER. So I didn't even apply to Landstar.
Very thankful for this local/LCV opportunity, with some good people I trust. Can just do what I like, drive trucks, no customers, no dickspatch, no OTR, no Customs, No Meat Inspection, just drive some trucks, yard to yard. City work is all by the hour, won't take it seriously, some of the customers they have, are near malls and places I like to eat at, so can't get some good lunches in, while waiting for them to load/unload the trailers; all paid by the hour.dancecanyon, Farmtractor9900 and upnorthwpg Thank this. -

I got a neat one for ya, 53' and a 32' with a power tail gate lol. Kind of a neat idea, no cross dock needed, just drop it off, city hooks up and goes straight to delivery.

I've heard the TV show ruined that.Farmtractor9900, BigHossVolvo and Cat sdp Thank this.

You're correct, buddy of mine works for Polar, and said every hot shot driver from around the world showed up to run those roads now. Even Iwona Blecharczyk the Polish chick youtube trucker came over to give it a go (and then went back to Poland lol).
