Probably talking about Halon. It's a fire suppressor that is very commonly used is computer data centers.slow.rider Thanks this.
-
They should have just got some dump trucks and used them to bury the car in sand to put the fire out.
-
I have a small idea of what Halon is used for but thanksnot4hire Thanks this.

I read this morning that Elon Musk weighed in on this story. He said that their records show that the car wasn't in auto pilot at the time of the crash, and that it would have been impossible for the car to be operating in auto pilot mode because there were no fog lines on the stretch of road where the crash happened, and auto pilot won't engage without fog lines.
Sounds like the car was moving along at 60+ mph when the road ran out of fog lines and auto pilot got kind of confused. What a way to run a company. You'd think the car would put on the brakes if it wasn't sure where it was.
No, I'm not worried about autonomous trucks taking our jobs anytime soon.Toomanybikes, slow.rider, tommymonza and 2 others Thank this. -
Sounds like you don't really know. There are no lines on that road.
Tesla also has a number of safety features that would have to be defeated in order for the car to be operated in the manner it was in this case (as it has also been the case in a number of other Tesla incidents); driver in the seat, seatbelt buckled, hands on the wheel, etc.
It does sound like Tesla needs to make their safety systems more idiot-proof.
And some people are just determined to remove themselves from the gene pool.Last edited: Apr 20, 2021
Toomanybikes and Doealex Thank this. -
Typical Musk lie. Sure the autopilot wasn't on, because the car turned it off 0.3 seconds before the crash...Toomanybikes, SteveScott, Doealex and 1 other person Thank this.

It’s funny how Butt hurt people get in this thread over this tech.
It’s a proven fact there are less accidents when auto pilot is on vs when humans are 100% in control while in Tesla’s.
Please note these cars have level 2 autonomy which requires 100% attention behind the wheel WHILE holding the steering wheel.
This crash is 100% the fault of who ever was ( or was not in this case ) behind the wheel.slow.rider Thanks this. -
Then maybe Musk should not be misleading in what the feature is called. Autopilot, to most people, means no pilot is needed.Last edited: Apr 20, 2021
Toomanybikes, TokyoJoe, slow.rider and 2 others Thank this. -
Never use water to put out a chemical fire! Water reacts to lithium pretty violently! Tesla batteries have a lithium based chemical composition.
That is a LOT of sand! All that's really needed to put out the lithium battery fire is a Class D fire extinguisher.slow.rider Thanks this.
