Should i buy a CB radio

But still spend the $40

 

99% of the time the CB is silent. It's 10 times less likely another driver will give a none CB signal to warn you you are spilling fuel or have no trailer lights than someone press a button on a CB mic. A radio is a tool. Why so many newbies throw that tool away fits with their blocking fuel pumps, inability to back inless they have 3,000 yards of space in front of the dock/parking space, and almost zero courtesy.

 

Or like this yo yo Tito day that had no trl lights at night and he had no radio.
But mr dot officer got him at the scale house in North platte. Or the one last week that had a bearing going out on his trl and several trucks tried to warn him. Even got beside him and tried holding up a sheet of paper to warn him. Guess he thought I was just being friendly, he just smiled and waved. Hope no one got killed when the duals came off. Radios are still a very valuable tool. May not like the crap that you hear. But I don’t leave unless it works and I still have my backup radio in the truck as well.

 

Waze doesn’t tell you when your in a white out and see the end of your hood that traffic has stopped and your about the slam into a traffic jam. Or you don’t have any lights on trl. But yeah old reliable techno is useless in such scenarios, but you techies keep relying on your phones and apps. My cb, road atlas and phone and even pay phones in the past and common sense has served me well for over 30 years. Gee how did we ever get anything done in the Stone Age?.

 

My CB was real handy when a Trailer Brake got stuck and was Smoking...I had a load of Gas...About one more minute it would have been on Fire...

 

I, like you started driving before GPS, cellphones, streaming media, Qualcomm, etc.. I learned to use the CB and atlas, etc. Maybe that's why I have so much contempt for new drivers and their flip-flops, fuel pump parking, can't back up traffic jams, etc.

 

The Waze App Warns about car's on the shoulder / cars blocking travel lane / Objects on road and a bunch of other stuff...its one more Tool for the Driver

 

So how did the CB help you?
I guess you could be being sarcastic with the comment.

My thinking is, if you had a trailer brake grabbing you would feel it well before anyone on the channel told you that you were smoking your brakes.
I've had it happen, and it is very obvious.
Things feel sluggish, maybe pulling to one side.
And if you are using the mirrors every now and then you would notice some smoke.

I had a CB when I first started out here.
After it went south I never replaced it, and I have never missed it.

Back in the days of Smokey and the Bandit and Convoy, the CB was the tool.
Today a GPS is the tool and a CB is nothing but a distraction.
