Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

I COULD hire in Atlanta if I had an open truck, but I don't have a seat available right now. Seems to me, due to a few key words in your post, that you have a skeleton hiding in your closet. If you had a good MVR, criminal record, and job history, Atlanta is not a tough spot to find a job in trucking.BIG_BIKER Thanks this.

I got an offer at Central Frig in Conley Ga. You know that company by any chance.Last edited: Dec 7, 2009

I have an excellent record. Just no company wants to hire a student right now. The school didnt tell me that companies want 6-12 months experience.I have applied to 50 companies and they ALL want 6-12 months experience. Central Frig is the only one that is positive about hiring me with a refresher course of course.Last edited: Dec 7, 2009

Why the need for a refresher? I'm sorry if I missed something in your original post.
As for Central, they are a large training company so, you will undoubtedly hear all kinds of bad stuff about them. My opinion of any training company is that although many have bad experiences, alot of the way the company treats you is based on you. If you have a good, humble attitude with a willingness to learn and play the game by their rules, you will be just fine. I am sure that bad things happen at those companies on occasion, but when you are in the position that you are, it is often best to just grit your teeth and try your best to get through one year with your first company. At that point, you can look for the job you want as opposed to the current job that you need. -
Im in the same boat. Every company wants 2 years verifiable OTR. Its not like it was 5 years ago.

A lot of times reefers are based on routes. In my area they like to hire minorities and give them a route. I was at a truck sales and service company in my area and a spanish guy was complaining about all of the Mexicans that they were hiring. If the route becomes too easy, then they change it to hourly he says. But thats only what I have seen.

He is right, the best routes go to the hungry drivers. Those people that complain all of the time get the scraps. Of course, if you have a family you may not see them much. But that is the life that you have chosen as a trucker.

Central told me that even though I graduated from a school they still want to train me in there school. It must be a revenue thing about them. What they don't trust the drivers they hire out of another School? or just want to see if you can handle the truck for there insurance? they want to charge me for there school. I am already paying for the other school I just graduated from. It dont make sense to me.

The training at a CDL school is only adequate to get a CDL . It doesn't even begin to give you the experience need to be a driver . Many drivers out of school can't even pass a road test at orientation .
