An apartment with a garage. At that range, in SLC area, all your going to get is a parking lot if your lucky.
Covered parking will run you another 100 easy. Only way your going to get a garage is a townhouse, that’s going to put you in the 2500+ range. And a mediocre area at best.
They have million dollar plus condos for sale now. -
Texas and Nevada no state income tax, Arizona, New Mexico, Louisiana, Mississippi, all good areas.

I understand the no State income tax but rarely does that even matter
I moved from a high tax State
( Minnesota ) to a non taxed State
Trust me, I still pay the State income tax one way or another
States do not operate for free or on voluntary help or donations
I wouldn’t use that as a selling point to move to one place or anotherJust passing by, austinmike and slow.rider Thank this. -
Since I moved from New York to Texas I save over 400 a month not paying state income tax, plus the money I save on gas, insurance, etc.
But I’m smart and rent a room so I don’t have to pay property and school taxes, homeowners insurance, interest and repairs,
I drive a 2002 Jeep, so I’m also not paying taxes on the the yearly value, so I’m technically saving a ton more money then that, and to me that’s a good selling point.GYPSY65 Thanks this. -
Exactly
You went from NY and downsized
You rent etc
Eliminating monthly obligations isn’t the same as no income taxes
Sure you may cut costs in other areas where as that becomes the selling factor
Don’t get me wrong. There are definitely pluses to moving from A to B but some think that the State income tax is the big one when it’s not
The States going to get theirs and if they don’t then go walk around, you’re most likely in the low rent district as the State doesn’t collect enough funds to handle the upkeep
Northern States have more upkeep with snow. Bad roads etc but nice southern States use the money for more parks and recreation and maybe tourism drawsdwells40 and slow.rider Thank this. -
There's also the matter of some states paying out more in federal income tax than they take in in federal subsidies, while other states receive more in subsidies than they pay out in federal income tax. The "donor states" will tend to have higher state taxes while paying their own bills plus subsidizing the unpaid bills of low tax states. And it just so happens that the biggest donor state of all is none other than New York.

Just passing by and GYPSY65 Thank this. -
That's about how much extra I make by taking one load per month from Midwest to New York instead of Midwest to Texas. Do that just twice per month because your home is in New York and you're ahead of the game.austinmike and GYPSY65 Thank this.
