For those of you wanting to become a truck driver ...

I'm new, as I said, and I'm slow granted. Slow at backing in, slow at trip planning etc. I've been OTR for a few months on my own now. Putting in a solid 60-65 hrs per week to take home paychecks of $1500-1800 every two weeks. Works out to be about $18/ hr before tax.

My fave is being dispatched around Toronto moving trailers around and getting 300 miles on the day.

 

For perspective, I do ltl, 65 hours a week, home daily with weekends off, take home is 1400 and change a week.

In fairness, it's the immigrants who are giving the immigrants there licences. Pretty much all driving schools/instructors are owned by immigrants and most of the testers as well. They are pretty much giving licenses to there family and friends and that's even if they have licenses. Lots of rumors around that half the guys don't even have licenses they just use someone they can pass for

 

I haven't heard about that yet. Although I heard the instructor who taught at my driving school was paying the drive test instructors under the table to pass them. So in a way I think some fault goes onto them too.

Industry is too far gone save anymore. Better to just do your job and try to protect yourself.

 

Or change industries.
