You can't buy alcohol, cigarettes or a lottery ticket until you are 21 but you can drive a truck at 18?
That being said there are a few 18 year olds that would be great drivers. If they grew up out in the country driving a tractor at 12 and a car at 16.

When I was 20 I was working as a tradesman raising a family and paying on a mortgage.
That was 1980 my how things have changed.
A friend who works for the Canadian National Railway told me they are having a difficult time recruiting new employees because 97% of potential new hires fail the drug test.

a person "was a full citizen", before he/she screwed up.

so then, by your meaning, a convicted murderer, maybe a serial rapist, ought to be given a free pass to be a "full citizen again":..???

I think it's kinda dumb, an 18 year old can get a CDL now, just can't cross state lines. Even if they live 2 miles away. Someone else pointed out you can travel 600 miles across a state but can't go 6 miles the other direction because of state lines.

On the other hand, the way the laws are, if an 18 year old gets his CDL and spends 3 years in intrastate driving, he or she has probably shown that driving is what they want to do, so by that logic, they'll hopefully care about being a professional.

But we all know the megas will find a way to screw it all up

Yeah I never believed the part about government subsidies making them rich.
But, lower labor costs equal more profit. And we know they aren't going to pay an 18yo much.

You can quibble with appropriate punishment and sentencing. But legally and by definition at time of release and end of parole, they have paid their debt. End of story.

Be honest, if there had been testing in 1980, how many would pass?

nothing more than menial jobs, with no chance of gun ownership or obtaining a CDL. nor train engineer, or airlines pilot, or ANY OTHER career that involves public safety. once a background check is done, and if found to have been tried, convicted and sentenced, no so called "full citizen".

if they wanted to be "full citizens" then they should have stayed on the straight and narrow, much like the rest of us do.

i see no rhyme nor reason to "hand them" a gun, or CDL just cuz they did thier time.

i'd never trust any slug, jailbird, or ex-con with any job or responsible job that required a background check.

more return to prison each year than you think about, and we gonna trust them..???

    i think not.
