    Hey guys,

You guys hear a lot more than most people think and opportunities can sometimes fall in your laps. Would you be open to "selling" that info to a paying party?

The people that are good salesmen are the people running freight directly and not using the spot market. Why would they sell their client to someone else? At least not for anything less than whatever it would take to retire on.
If they aren't a good salesman (and I'm not trying to be derogatory, it's just some people have strengths in other areas) they tend to use the spot market so they don't have to deal with an aspect of business ownership they don't want to mess with.

    TylerP58 Thanks this.

In other words, you want to steal away business from others,(Brokers/Carriers) using information from those already doing business with them? Not interested. Why complicate things. Find a Need, provide the Service. Everyone wants to make money off others work.

I more meant a lead that may be outside the scope of what you do, service area or lane wise. Actually, it could be a lead completely devoid of anything trucking related. Maybe the forklift operator said they were moving to a new facility? That's a lead for a moving company.

I'm referring to things of that sort - naturally, you're not going to hurt your own business.

More like trying to find a way to utilize important information that falls through the cracks - if both parties could benefit, why not? This isn't just a trucking question really but considering most of my domain knowledge lies in this industry, I figured I'd start here.

    Badmon Thanks this.

That makes sense. Somebody said "information is power". How are you planning to reward the people who give you the information?

I think you would have to be more specific.

If it's not ethical, then no.

If it is ethical, then hell yes!

your pretty far off base....just one reason alone, not being committed to anything daily. Really has nothing at all with being a salesman

That's a good question and there are numerous questions that need to be answered even before we get to compensation.
    - How do we validate whether the lead is real or not?
    - If the lead is indeed real, how do we validate whether or not the lead purchaser succeeded in making a sale (if we decide to make the lead commission contingent on winning the business).

There are a plethora of holes in a service like this but it's fun to think about.
