Has anyone used WIA funding for school?

The WIA Program is slower than normal right now because of the massive influx of participants. As of late, it has been taking up to three (3) months to get qualified.
Your Case Worker actually has to get your test results back from work keys, plus other requested info, then all of your information is sent to Sacramento for approval, then back to your local office for processing.

It is a lengthy process, at times, but, it is so worth the effort that you have invested. No contracts or financing.

I just went thru WIA here in PA just like kickin chicken said you have to pass work keys test I also had to get 3 letters of pre hire from companys...I started the process around sept 30th and I finally get to go to school on the 9th so it may take a month or longer? hope this helps good luck

 

Wow, Buckeye. 3 letters of pre-hire? I'm in TX and I had no such hoop to jump through. My WIA process took about 5 weeks. While there is a large number of applicants, it really boils down to the repoire you establish with your case worker. I finally start trucking school Nov 9. It's been a long wait, but definitely worth the occasional frustration.

 

I wanted to go threw WIA went I was ready to get my CDL but at the time they
were out of funds.

Then I happened upon this program for people with seasonal jobs or who have
worked on farms.
The program is called MET (Motivational Educational Training)and they pay for
schooling in FULL, also pay you $6.45hr for every hour you attend class, and a
$400 food voucher.
Their only requirement was that you maintained a job for at least 14 months
after you got out of school. Funny thing about it is that they did not care if you
mowed lawns, flipped burgers, washed cars, or walked dogs for a job as long
as you had one for the 14 months.

 

Clay I found out about WIA over half way through my unemployment , would have been nice to know that was available to me sooner.Seems like they want to keep it a secret.When I went for it twice they said funds were not available.

 

Did the WIA in So Cal, 4 or 5 weeks of hoop jumping, but the list of schools they pay for is limited ( in my opinion), I wanted a local job and most of the schools try to hook you up w a coast to coast company, it took me 4 months to get my local/short haul job but it has paid off big time for me

 

i went through WIA to get my funding here in ohio. it did take a few months but i think it was mainly due to heavy app load (lots of lay-offs in this area). took me about 4 months after 1st app. with one stop. i had to go to 2 other appts. and take a test (basic knowledge not too hard). i have completed my training and had an interview today that went well hope to hear back in a few weeks. i have a thread under schools and great lakes tds. i did during training. could only update on weekends as i was staying in a hotel through the week. any ?
