That would have been good to know. The old Manitowoc crane was difficult to drive for me. Only had to drive it enough for maintenance when everyone else was off on the week end. They parked the P & H for a major failure but the drive engine had a recent bare block overhaul. Mamitowoc engine failed and we swapped them out. The operator and his ground man set the engine with the crane. That had its own 6 cylinder Cummins. I would tell the ground man 1/8 inch this way or that way and he would do a lot of hand signals. Boom was 150 or 200 foot straight in the air and they could have installed a wedding ring.
So past all that BS some clutches were adjusted with shims between the pressure plate and flywheel. Mark the first bolt and loosen it. Do the same until you get back to it. Then pull two shims from each one. When you finish the round then tighten the bolts one at a time plus at least one.spsauerland and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
Maybe too late, but I said the measurement was 1/2”, 5/8” max. That’s wrong. I just remembered it’s 1/2”, and up to 9/16” that’s allowed, or considered normal.
spsauerland, BoxCarKidd and John E. Thank this. -
