It's not really that simple. It ignores lost opportunity. One of the problems is a kid has to get a job for those three years after highschool and before he can drive interstate. In those three years he may or may not then want to drive.

Those types of incentives are created by low top tier tax rates. When a high top tier tax rate effectively caps top salaries in the stratosphere, then companies are compelled to look for other ways to invest the money. Facilities and worker pay are two top choices. But when the CEO and board of directors can simply pay themselves as much as they want, then there's much less reason for them to spend the money on anything else.

Kinda funny nobody had an issue with me changing tie rods, brakes, wheelbearings and suspension components on trucks when I was in my late teens, 90% of the time unsupervised. Yet it's such a huge deal for an 18 year old to take a truck out on the highway.

Honestly I don't see the fuss. I mean really. An 18 yr old can drive from Mexico up to Oregon in CA and do pretty much the same amount of miles an OTR driver. Just running intrastate. Not sure the big deal of going over an imaginary line into another state.

Do you realize how many soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen entered the military on a drug waiver? They volunteered and possibly fought for this country but with your logic smoking weed at 18 prevents you from getting a cdl at 30? Ridiculous!

Sure there is lost opportunity during the early years. How many people get a CDL after the age of 21 Now? What is the percentage of people that tried other opportunities before they tried the CDL programs? Possible just a wash in the % of workers before and after.

Yup, and I'll take the 19 year old with the additional 400hrs of apprenticeship...over the 22 year old that backed up in the yard 3 times and got a medical card from a shady chiropractor.
