That is a great tip. I would add, even if you have a gps, even if it is the best one on the market, still do this. I don't trust any gps 100% and I have heard of drivers using gps and having a heck of a time.

I use the light above the visor, but if you write on the windshield with a marker it is hard to see with oncoming lights. That is why I use the suction cup on the windshield. If need be I can pull it off and look at it better. I can not tell how many times I have seen a oncoming truck with a flashlight shining through the windshield. I am assuming he is looking at his directions or has really bad headlights...:biggrin_2554:

I run a GPS. It is merely a tool I use. I do not trust it 100% Even my truckers atlas will not list all places I should not be.

if I'm going someplace new, I rely on my GPS to get me there, but I also check my Motor Carriers atlas for low clearence routes and to make sure it's all truck route.

this reminds me of a motorcycle trip I took a couple years ago. We were following a friend who had a gps with a trip plotted. A couple hours later Going thru Prescott , AZ. All of the sudden he turns off the highway and we start going down small streets , I am thinking -- maybe he knows someone here and wants to stop by. Finally he pulls over and when asked, he said his gps has had him going down these streets. So not sure if it was a programming error or what , BUT ever since then I always check maps. It kinda gave me a bad impression. Technology is great until they act up or have a powerglitch. Paper is always there. Nit without it's own problems at times but never the less.

Try calling your drop for directions...The locals tend to have pretty good info...:biggrin_255:

I also would imagine that the "trucker" gps's (or software) available at Pilots or T/A's should be a little more accurate and "user friendly" for trucking ????

Get'em from Pilot or the J...TA is a bit spendy...:biggrin_2554:
PETRO has decent deals on GPS too...:biggrin_255:
