Hello I own a Cummins isx15, 2015, prostar
519,000 miles.
Oil consumption has increased to around 1 quart per 500 miles .
So 3200 miles I usually have to put 1.5 gallon of oil.
I went to the tech and had the engine front gasket replaced, I don’t have no leaks.
also had put a “no maintenance filter” to help with the blow by oil lost . I know with this type filter there will be some oil consumption but this really high.
I don’t have white,blue,black smoke.

engine runs at 200-230 oil temp
Water temp is always less than 200 F
should I add additives ? What type of oil should I use. ? Or is this freaking normal?
Thanks O/O

My ISX at 900k never burned a drop of oil. Dipstick always in the exact same spot. Then one day I checked it, and it was at the bottom of the dipstick. Bad oil cooler. You might check your coolant and see how it looks just to rule that out.bzinger and Xenergiserx Thank this.

Sounds like your ready for an inframe. Get an oil sample ASAP. Put some Lucas in there and take it easy.
Xenergiserx Thanks this. -
Is the DPF still there?

Carbon compaction of the rings, which has caused streaking in the cylinders. Common problem in that year ISX. There is a special valvoline oil that is $100/gal. It has a detergent in it that reduces carbon compaction and supposed to reseal the rings. I’ve tried it once and actually was able to get another 50k miles or so.

I just find it odd since the truck has no performance issues the truck runs fine. Thanks for your help brotherbzinger Thanks this.

My 2013 isx ran great guzzling up a gallon about every 1200 miles ...dont waste your money on that valvoline band aid .
Mine started using oil at 540k and progressively got worse until I had it tore down at 684k .
All 6 liners were polished , rings carbon packed and cam was shot.stuckinthemud Thanks this. -
You think I can survive until 600k , I hope I can make there. I’ll look up some additives to add to oil or diesel to help with that carbon packing issue. 1700 for an oil change since expensive. Rather save for the in frame repair, since I don’t really have smoke. And no leaks no check engine light I’ll wait a lil more.bzinger Thanks this.

I wouldn't worry about it for no more than you are using
Hell mine was using so much the last 10 months before the overhaul I quit changing the oil and spun a new filter on when the oil pressure started to drop a little .Isafarmboy, Farmtractor9900, AModelCat and 2 others Thank this.
