I've got a couple of opportunities in front of me and I'm trying to decide between the two. One is hauling a dedicated chemical tanker - out loaded, back empty 100% of the time, paid the same both ways. The other is car hauling.
I've watched several videos on car hauling and I started noticing a trend - most of the guys were pretty thin. I'm pretty, but there's nothing thin about me. I've lost some weight, but I'm still well overweight. Would I be myself and the employer a disservice by taking this position?
I'm fine with the physicality. I'm fine with the weather. I did flatbed for years. I just worry about getting a car into position and not being able to get out without dinging a door.
Thoughts?

They both should pay well. I would prefer chemical tanker, but your going to have to learn to be smooth

A fellow driver who was almost as wide as he was tall told my class of rookie carhaulers “if my fat ### can do it anyone can”. There are some very large guys hauling cars, there are also some skinny guys and then there are some in between. If you can handle the physical part of it (not digging ditches hard, but you definitely know you worked at the end of the day hard) go for it. I pulled tanks of Hazardous Waste briefly 30 something years ago and didn’t care for it after a stint on slick roads. Low pay for the risk involved and smooth bore tanks was also why I didn’t stay at it very long. Carhauling can definitely suck at the beginning and you won’t kill it right out the gate for pay. A well seasoned hard working carhauler should within a year or so make $2,000 a week if he is doing it right and works for the right company at the right location. Nearly 10 years in hauling cars for me, 5+ with my own rig and I don’t plan to do anything else for a living.Hammer166, 24kHotshot, FallenStar and 2 others Thank this.

How big a boy are ya’? I’m 6’5” and about 255 or 260 depending on what I had for breakfast!
There are guys as big as and a lot taller and some a whole lot wider I’ve seen hauling cars. I took some time away from hauling cars and got up to about 330#s. When I came back I dropped back down to 250 pretty quick. There’s a lot of walking climbing and strapping. You won’t need a gym membership. It can be done. I guess it depends on how bad you want it.

Is this Roy D. Mercer?
Haha, I'm about 5'9", 317 and dropping. The training is a few weeks in Texas and it's starting to get pretty warm out. I might lose more than a couple of pounds just from the heat.
Anyway, I'm thankful for the responses and feel more confident about taking the position. I would prefer the car hauling, just to be a bit more physical but didn't want to show up to orientation and it be a waste of everyone's time. Thank y'all.JadeLove, Banker, homeskillet and 1 other person Thank this. -
Stay hydrated and good luck! Hope you keep everyone updated on how it goes. Just a quick tip. Take your time! Don’t let anyone rush you. The big money won’t come at first but if you pay attention and take all the advice you can from the guys that are and have been doing it right for years after a while you can pocket good money!GYPSY65, Hammer166, Banker and 1 other person Thank this.
