I run caps on all axles except the steers only ever had one let go (Michelin's)
Also we have very second class roads, even the new steerer's only last 50k miles.
We might have a different capping system over here.

A trash hauling company around here did the same. Blamed the caps but regardless what the tire company told him he always ran them till they were totally gone then couldn't understand why they exploded. You have to take them off before they're ruined, and if you have one that isn't looking good replace it before it leaves you stranded.

The tire rep also said that a lot of tire issues are because people mix and match brands and models. They put tires together with different tread depths, and worst of all different load ratings. Believe it or not Michelin's sidewalls are different than a Bridgestone so putting them together and hauling heavy isn't a good idea. 22.5's also have a lower load rating than 24.5's so do full size vs lo pro's. So before you blame the cap, make sure your not overloading the tires in the first place.

Now I don't normally use caps on equipment that haul heavy. Not because I don't trust the caps but because obviously a capped tire is older and I'm not taking any chances damaging equipment, recap or not. I don't care if it's a 4yr old virgin tire, like some women rubber doesn't age well.:biggrin_25523:

Its really hilarious to watch that never-ending struggle on part all those con artists to find a way to newbie O/Os pockets. The best part is, there are always seem to be bunch of hardcore believers - no matter how stupid solution is being promoted - there will be creatures gaining mpg and/or saving thousands dollars per year:biggrin_255:

And how about all those talk show hosts, who play stupid and let scumbags on the air for a few bucks - always gotta be middleman, prices are inflated just enough to cover wild advertisement (just think how much piece of pipe can really cost... yet it sells for $300 labeled as Turdblow)

Sad part is, those morons at the bottom of the chain who are stupid enough to be buying all the crap, are also "players" on the load-boards, no to mention they are lease-purchasers to ATA comiepanies, they are being used to lower the lowest rates :biggrin_25510:

Then like I said, it fun to watch all the idiots, who believe that truck or tire makers are blind, deaf, illiterate r-tards who don't know their $h|t despite hundreds of years worth research and development :biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559:

I've said that forever. Whenever someone asks about some snake oil trick to add fuel mileage (turbo3000 comes to mind) or adding acetone to your fuel, or some stupid metal tornado thing in your intake and there are always people who believe the hype. But are completely clueless when you point out that if any of this crap actually worked don't you think the OEM would have already added it. I mean none of the engine mfg's are stupid, do they believe that Cat, Cummins, Detroit ect, spent billions trying to meet the EPA standards while trying to make a reliable fuel efficient engine but overlooked a piece of pipe in the fuel line? They all know what works, their just not allowed to do it because of the tree huggers.

On a side note I've found that if I just remove my tires all together I save all kinds of fuel. I also completely removed all the fuel lines and installed 28 turbo9000's end to end, coated my truck and trailer (inside too) with air tabs and started driving without a trailer and my tanks are running over with all the fuel I'm saving, and my wallet has never been lighter!:biggrin_2559:

I would have rather had caps than the Bridgestones that came new on the last 4 KW's I've bought.

    I confirm that!

Bridgestone 726 EL (drives) - still unconfirmed suspicion that the compound is causing irregular wear. I will find out by switching to Michelins

Bridgestone 287 (steers) - clusterf**k, couldn't go past 100k miles on average, one tire would start going bad. Max mileage was 130k (one side, with other already replaced). After numerous "fixes" (alignment, shocks etc) I had installed Michelins XZA3. With no other tweaks, right after another set of 287's went bad early, just changed the tires and shocks. Well, since then I got 185,000 miles and still plenty EVEN thread on them

I'd love to hear some good theory as to WHY is this happening, because to me it looks like Incredibly Superior tire vs. POS tire case :biggrin_2554:

The tire place I deal with sent the Bridgestone rep out to look at those POS's and he tried to blame the truck, the driver, and the application. But when I showed him multiple trucks (only difference was the colors) with different brands doing the same job without the wear issues he had nothing to say. Too bad they charge a fortune to swap brands when you order. The wore so bad I had them capped with 1/2 the tread left and they were fine after that. It's gotta be the compound because the Bandag caps wore great.
