I used to go there a lot back when I ran to Denver...a lot of good times.

I also think it's funny that people somehow get ratted on for taking a 34 in a hotel. I would never work for such a place. I tell my company I'm staying in a hotel, and it's never a problem as long as the truck is secure.

A lot of casinos, including some at truck stops will allow you to belly up to the bar, throw 5-10 dollars in the video poker machine and drink your favorite beverage for as long as credits are showing and you tap the buttons every now and then. Be sure to tip your server/bartender well so as to ensure this fringe benefit remains available.

Not gonna name names for obvious reasons, some probably know the truckstops where this plays out.

The Harrah's in KC has truck parking and a dedicated Poker room.

Bosselmans PFJ in Grand Island, NE has a bar & grill with craft beer on tap & good food.

I'm a big fan of Texas Roadhouse, they have over 600 locations now, and they really consistently put out a decent size steak, wherever one may find themselves. Best chain steakhouse that isn't outrageously priced. A lot of them will give you a free appetizer if your alone and sit at the bar (so u don't take up a whole table).

There are several truck stops with Bass Pro Shops next door, its a good place to grab clothes, gloves, gifts, etc. The prices are good too.

There was this young kid, new flatbedder, working for Melton. He posted on TTR that he was taking a 34, his location, etc. He had previously posted pics of his truck and so if someone wanted his truck number, they had that info. He posted pics of the booze in a motel.
Another member saw his post, contacted Melton, gave out location and truck number, Melton did the big corporate damage control thing and fired him. Dime dropper even bragged about it.

Another instance, had a friend that was an owner operator leased on to DSV, on his 34, on a Facebook website where DSV drivers frequent, posted a picture of a 24 ounce tall boy sitting on the dashboard. Dimes were dropped and DSV terminated his contract.

So, I am not telling anyone not to get out and have your fun. Have fun! But whenever I posted pics of a bar, an adult beverage, a meal, a restaurant, the Southside of the RioGrande…whatever, it’s always a week or so later after the event. The more successful you are, the more haters you will have sitting back and following your every move. I am trying to help, but people are focusing on the company response and “I wouldn’t work here if they fire people on their 34s….yadda yadda yadda…” . Beware of the dime droppers and what info you are making public.

Be discreet. Some people will post their location, the local time, what toilet stall they are in and which hand they wipe with. “Hey, I have doodoo on my left thumb, ha ha” Some moron will contact a company telling tales of doodoo on the left thumb. Company will think, “Oh my…this idiot posting pics of a mudslide! What should we do? He’s THAT stupid? Fire the idiot!”

Texas Roadhouse gave away free giant steak dinners to any trucker when covid first hit. They’d even bring it out to your truck. Now that was trucker appreciation. For that reason, I always eat there when the opportunity arises.

That comedy club, for whatever reason, is mostly black/Latino comics. I’ve gone there four or five times and always had a great time. Shower at the TA before going there though, don’t just roll out of the truck…

Sadly, this discretion applies not just to a hard partying 34 hour break but to daily work too.

Many drivers, in my experience, have some kind of insecurity that they are always getting screwed over and that other drivers are getting the “good loads”. Those people constantly want to know your whereabouts to confirm this suspicion that they’re being hosed somehow.

I used to like staying in smaller towns back in the dollar store days. I'd just walk around town and see what's there. Some great mom n pop restaurants. Sometimes shoot pool at a local pup. No booze consumed, no worries. Sometimes I'd watch a hockey game at a local sports bar. Appetizers, water and generous tips for the servers. Again, no booze consumed and nothing to worry about. This was all before I joined TTR so there was no chance of some jack### making trouble for me. And since I didn't park the company truck at any bars and I only drank water I think the potential trouble would have been little or none anyway.
