I have read alot of these post about people leaving there truck at a company yard, and then later on, finding out they have a abandoned vehicle on there dac report. Now here is the question. When you turn in your vehicle don't these companies due a turn in inspection, or due they just trust the driver was an excellent housekeeper. If they do a turn in inspection why does'nt "the driver" ask for a copy of the inspection, that way you can refute a report on your dac. I am just a local driver and have'nt driven otr since '97, but just seems like a logical way to cover yourself. Years in the military has taught me to always cover your backside. And I know "logic in the trucking business" well lets leave that for a different thread if anyone wants to give that one a shot.

Yeah, I would insist on an inspection and written confirmation from the company that the truck was in good condition when returned, and returned to the proper yard. Taking pictures with dates on them wouldn't hurt either, as I've read stories that truckers have been charged for damages that occurred after they returned the truck. I say CYA and get it in writing, ALWAYS!

I just think that, its your dac report not the companies, therefore your responsibility as a driver and a responsibility to your own career. If a person just drops off a truck and thinks everything is hunky dory Aok without getting something in writing to confirm you did everything properly, well then your just asking for trouble. Anybody thats been in this business long enough should know this.

i am only local but in any industry, especially the trucking industry, you MUST get everything in writing. once its documented, its there forever. words only last once.

go here and read this thread : http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...s-advice/94252-what-do-when-you-get-your.html

it also goes into when you leave that company!
You have to CYA in this cesspool of a job! They are eating up drivers and throwing them under the bus for nothing! And they can get away with it until enough complaints come in about the same company then DAC/USIS/HireRight look a little harder at their reports.

Millis pulled that crap on me back in '94, told me to turn it in at the Weedsport yard then nailed me for abandonment after I did...Thanks Mikey Millis..

Make the company inspect the truck then sign off on it in writing !!!!!! Tyring to explain an alleged abandonment is no fun..

Most drivers when leaving a company normally just want out.
They think just drop off the truck n your good.
Company or lease you should have your truck inspected when turning it in.
If you don't then whos to say what happened.
If the truck abandoned then it wont get inspected untill another driver returns it to the yard.
Whos to know what happens when he drives it, but its your truck so damage goes against you.
I have always taken photos of a truck if it has damage on reciept of that truck, written it up for damage to be repaired.
I also take photos of every turn in to cover my butt and ask for a copy of the turn in inspection thats completed.

Well like I said when started the thread was the people saying they got a bad report "but did everything they were told in returning the truck" did they get the turn in inspection copy. I always have; but I must admit my otr company was good to me and never had any trouble with a local company ( locals don't use dac, usis that I am awhare of) so that is what led me to ask the question. Also I wrote don't these companies due a turn in inspection. due should be do.
