Well, after an extended AZ Driver Course due to the strike by the Drive Test workers in Ontario, I was finally able to take my road test on Tuesday. I passed! Yesterday I had an interview at Kriska Transport, which included a 2hr road test over the streets of Mississauga, Ontario, in a truck I'd never driven before coupled to a 47,000lb loaded trailer. Naturally, I pulled all kinds of newbie mistakes, but managed not to kill anybody or damage anything, so I guess they figured I was trainable.I start my training the first or second week in January, a full one year apprenticeship. 3 1/2 days of classroom, 6 weeks OTR with a trainer and then they turn me loose in my own truck (well, their truck, but they assign it to me and there's no slip seating) with weekly and monthly reviews until the final big test at the one year mark.
I am so looking forward to this!

Congratulations! 2 hour road test, 6 weeks with a trainer, sounds like Kriska does things the right way. 6 weeks sounds like a long #### time though. Hopefully you get along well with your trainer, that's a small space to share. Anyway, best of luck. Maybe I'll run into you sometime, I spend a lot of time in Southern Ontario and see Kriska trucks all the time.

According to Mark Seymour of Kriska the average truck driver @Kriska works for peanuts!

He should be embarassed! -
1 year probation seems like a long (and illegal) time, if that's what it is.
6 weeks with a trainer is a golden opportunity, don't blow it. -
"Seymour says the average driver at Kriska makes about $58,000 a year, and, he added, thats not enough. And a three or four-percent increase is not enough."
How many company drivers here made $58000??? -
My brother pulled in $75 last year. There are guys here pulling in $90

I pull in between $60k-$65k each year as a company driver, and that's with a good 4-6 weeks off. Sometimes more. It's quite easy to make a decent amount if your company gives you good miles.

6 weeks away from home, no weekly home?
