Pull the piping and inspecting the turbos is the only real way to check them and pull those pipes is a pain.
If you have heavy black smoke, then the DPF has failed. If the engine is deleted, then I really can't help further, but at this point you need to run an air management test with Navistar Engine Diagnostics and go from there.spsauerland Thanks this. -

If you had tail pipe smoke, you still have a failed DPF.

when the wrench was checking the charge air cooler he left the rubber plug in the outlet pipe started it up got lodged in egr flap didnt notice it drove away hour later the problem happened replaced filterHeavyd Thanks this.
