Yup minimum door size for a shop is 12x14 just for wiggle room like @wore out said.
-
I'd go 14 tall and 14 wide myself. Trust me you'll kick yourself if you go 12 wide. Truck will fit but there's not much wiggle room with the mirrors.
Ruthless, Vampire and skallagrime Thank this. -
+1 on the 14x14
Especially if you ever need to back in a box trailer or conestoga -
I’m building a new shop this fall and got my quotes all in, I don’t see where there would e $3500 per foot increase, that seems to be very high unless it is not a pole or steel building. I decided to go 15 high 15 wide because I did 14 and had issues with a truck being on a hook and backed into the shop at my Indiana location.Accidental Trucker and Vampire Thank this.

Again, THANKS! to all you Hands who took the time to reply and share your experiences and advice and opinions..
I'm going to go with a 12' height. Will keep that number in mind when shopping for tractor.
Contractor will quote me a firm price once I give him a "real" number, I can fully understand contractors position, besides, he only gave me a "guesstimate" on cost because I couldn't give him a real number when he was here on site, me being such a dumb-##* in not knowing what height I need.........yeesh, just never thought about just tractor height, always just automatically assume 13'6" standard rig height..................Live and Learn............
Again, THANKS big time to all who posted with advice. -
Not more than 13'6" at the stack.
-
Trust me, you're going to kick yourself in the ### later for only going with a 12 foot tall door.
Roberts450, Ruthless, ProfessionalNoticer and 4 others Thank this. -
I would go with Ridgeline’s advice. Plus, look for a new contractor. Making the statement they did about adding that much money for an increase in door height is a red flag. -
