Go 14 ft. That will give you wiggle room. The difference in money from say 12 to 14 is small.

 

Yup minimum door size for a shop is 12x14 just for wiggle room like @wore out said.

 

I'd go 14 tall and 14 wide myself. Trust me you'll kick yourself if you go 12 wide. Truck will fit but there's not much wiggle room with the mirrors.

I’m building a new shop this fall and got my quotes all in, I don’t see where there would e $3500 per foot increase, that seems to be very high unless it is not a pole or steel building. I decided to go 15 high 15 wide because I did 14 and had issues with a truck being on a hook and backed into the shop at my Indiana location.

 

Not more than 13'6" at the stack.

 

Trust me, you're going to kick yourself in the ### later for only going with a 12 foot tall door.

 

I would go with Ridgeline’s advice. Plus, look for a new contractor. Making the statement they did about adding that much money for an increase in door height is a red flag.
