Go with the bar band option..at least you'll get laid occasionally.

Hey you all, thanks so much for the responses. I think I'm going to nix the truck driving idea. It's easy to be calm when your sitting at your desk in the air conditioning, TALKING about truck driving. But when you're pulling a big trailer in rush hour, in the heat, running late, that's when the mistakes happen with me. And then with my knee arthritis, I'm going to wind up abusing the hell out of it just to get the job done.

Bartending...that's going to be very physical too. Running around, lifting stuff. I think I'd rather just be chilling out on the other side of the bar having a good conversation with a hot woman.

So I'm going to be pursuing a desk type of job, something entry level in computers like tech support. I was on a good career path years ago but I dropped the ball. Yeah I'm older now, 47 but I'm not going to let the fear of failure dominate me. My sister went back to school in her mid 40's and got a master's degree. She's an accountant now.

I don't know if any of you all are into computers, but I've been messing around with the Linux operating system for years. I've been successfully running it on my 10 year old e-machine desktop, it's what I'm typing this on right now. It's so much simpler and faster than Windows. I think I'm going to take some training and get a certification in Linux.

So that's where I"m at. Thank you all.

    Matt

That's awesome! I'll keep up my lessons and practice. I'm working on my 80's style guitar solos. I've got a neon red Jackson Superstrat with a Floyd Rose. The more flash and tricks, the better. A lot of whammy bar can fool the crowd into thinking you're better than you are.

It's like Reading Rainbow isn't it?

I like your advise. And once I lose another 30 pounds (I've lost 5 so far) I'll be able to fit into spandex.

I was actually looking at a dump truck driving job not far from my house in Glendale, AZ. The ad actually encouraged disabled people, military vets, people without a college degree, to apply. Maybe dump truck driving wouldn't be too physically demanding. And there's a lot of dump truck jobs in Phoenix.

Before I go off wasting money on computer courses, I'm gong to check into this dump truck thing. The worst that can happen is they don't hire me. Man that would be awesome driving one of those awesome rigs on these massive freeways, loaded up all heavy, then hit the jake brake with straight pipes.

Yeah driving a dump is pretty fun. I'd rather deal with the quarries and landfills than warehouses all day.
