california isn’t alone in this, I have more than one shipment delayed or canceled coming in from overseas when the crating or dunnage used isn’t certified/marked as having been treated. They can’t even get it off the ship in some cases. Same reason Florida has ag inspection stations. It also comes into play when hauling used construction equipment like dozers and excavators

I can wholeheartedly say my husband is ready to divorce me after sending him on this load.

Some years ago I picked up a used British tracked machine in Tacoma for delivery in northern Alberta and had to have it not only steam cleaned twice but also sprayed with a disinfectant. This was done on the trailer with all water and dirt collected and again treated and the whole thing being inspected by Canada Customs. This cost 2 days waiting time charged onto the freight rate as well as the 6 hours on a wash pad and the cost of the disposal and 30 gallons of disinfectant.
This was during the mad cow problems in Great Britain.cke, not4hire, Linte_Loco and 5 others Thank this. -
exactly - It sucks but I understand
just look at what the bark beetle has done to the Colorado forestscke, Linte_Loco, D.Tibbitt and 1 other person Thank this. -
All or at least most lumber shipped from Canada must be certified Kiln-dried or treated to be shipped to the USA and especially California and Florida.cke, not4hire, Linte_Loco and 3 others Thank this.

Yup we have the same thing in Western Canada. There is a European bug and an Oriental bug feasting on our forests. It is said that they came to our shores in nontreated wood furniture but that has not been proven, it could also have been untreated crating discarded at the ports.cke, Linte_Loco, D.Tibbitt and 2 others Thank this.

Anyone that thinks this obviously doesn’t remember the fruit fly infestation in the 80s that devastated the California agriculture industry for years. It’s done to protect the farmers and the forests.cke, Linte_Loco, Gearjammin' Penguin and 3 others Thank this.

Few years ago, I hauled a few loads of “Food Grade Export” pallets. They couldn’t get any one to move them because they had to be tarped.
At the delivery place, I asked what was so special about them. Was told they had to be a specific wood, treated a certain way. That was European law for import. They paid really well. The place I loaded even had a tarp setter.cke, Linte_Loco, D.Tibbitt and 1 other person Thank this. -
California agriculture dollars for 2019 was about 50 billion. The number 1 rank of all states. Thats a lot of money, just part of the states economy. When it gets to that kind of level, you do things to protect that. They have been fighting serious invasive pest problems for a long time.cke, Linte_Loco, Czar_Zero and 4 others Thank this.

Exactly! California would be stupid not to be very careful with agriculture and forest products entering their state.cke, Linte_Loco, D.Tibbitt and 1 other person Thank this.
