Hmmmm.... will have to hide my propane camping stove. Have tried everything, electric pot, steamer, have a slow cooker but that is good only for cooking beans while I drive. After a year and a half and so much frustration, bought a camping stove (one burner) and that is the only thing that REALLY works. I am vegetarian, definetly CAN'T find food on the road. I GOTTA EAT. Sc*ew the DOT. Will keep cooking my vegetables and rice and pasta with my propane stove.
BTW, the steamer cooks with water only. You can cook rice and vegetables at same time and it has a timer so you don't need to monitor.

Cooking in a moving truck is an accident waiting to happen, just a matter of time. When you think this is a good idea take a trip thru the burn ward. When your stopped for your 10 thats a different thing. I carry a griddle, and a coleman 2 burner, and a propane bbq. Theres not much I can not cook if need be. Ive been know to serve up a fairly good breakfast in rest areas before. Nothing like the smell of bacon and sausage wafting thru the rest area on a cold winters morning. Or coffee brewing on the coleman stove..... Still prefer to eat at home but this can come close at times. Just have to watch you fer those pesky wabbit's they steal your picnic basket. I know its the wabbit, Yogi would take it. My favorite is to BBQ up a steak when they are taking there sweet time unloading you.. the smell will drive the dock guys nuts...Ducks and Lux Prometheus Thank this.

my BBQ is the oldfashined kind....no propane......also the ONLY thing I cook with going down the road is the crock or the little ovens or the microave...I only use my toaster oven and my elec skillet when the truck is parked........

Don't forget about simple things that don't need to be cooked like lunch meat, fruits and vegetables etc. So if you have a working cooling device or fridge you are in good shape for the before mentioned items.

This may have been mentioned but the DC operated hot box is useful at times. It looks like a big lunch pail. Pilot, TA, etc. sells them and you can also buy disposable foil liners to help keep it clean. I heat up cans of soup in the original metal container (no plastic) or place pre-cooked lasagna, burritos, hot pocket type things, etc. in the foil liner. Pre cook a frozen lasagna the day before you leave out. Make several portions in separate bags. Use your imagination.
It takes about 20-30 minutes depending on what you are heating up and if you are patient and leave the lid closed, it will produce mouth burning temps. I think it heats faster when the truck is idling.
A microwave would be better sure but this is a useful and small item that won't cost you 200 clams and with Winter weather barking at us, a hot low cost meal in the truck makes sense.Baack Thanks this. -

I had a rubbermaid bucket that I kept under my bunk, as well I had a fridge factory installed in my truck, and a 750 watt inverter that would run my microwave.
Id go to sams club and stock up on canned precooked chicken, tuna, and canned soup, lots of meals out of a can. Before I had the microwave in the truck I would open a can of soup and set it on the radiator when I had stopped,
I also ate a lot of cereal and sammiches.Soundhound Thanks this. -
BAACK can I hard boil eggs in the rice cooker??????
