The speaker in my Cobra 29 black and chrome sucks. However, it is the only radio I've ever heard in my life so maybe it's not so bad and my hearing just sucks.:biggrin_25512:

I'm hoping an external speaker may be a little cleaner sounding. Can someone recommend a good one? Is there a good one I can find at a truck stop or should I order a specific one from Sparky? I don't mind paying the premium price at a truck stop for the convenience but I'll order and wait for quality if it comes down to it.

I did have a Cobra 500 once that sounded good. I paid $30 for it at a truck stop though I should have just bought online...would have been cheaper.

The stock speaker sucks and is not in the best place on the radio. An external speaker can make a world of difference in how well you can hear.

I just bought two from Doug at CustomCBRadio that are "ACTUALLY" as described.
Dirt cheap but sound as good as any Ranger or Motorola Ive ever run.
There is no brand name or marking but they sure sound clean.

I originally bought them to put one in my Jeep, but it sounded so good when testing it in my truck I just swapped the bracket on my Moto
and left it hanging. Good thing I bought two :yes2557:

The best sounding external speaker I've ever had is the one that came stock in my KW...It's mounted in the wall of the cab just to the left of where I sit. I can run the volume really low and still hear it clearly!

I always just buy one off the shelf at a truck stop. I think I owned 3 in 32 years. They last forever. Don't cost but $10-$12. I only owned 2 CB's in 32 years also. I take care of my stuff.

The Uniden ESP speakers sound great and are tough as nails. I have the 12 watt version in my pickup, been holding up well for over 2 years now. The Texas Rangers I have heard have great audio, but then your getting into big $$.

If you can find one,the old Motrola ex speaker that was used in the police cars are some of the best ever. They look like a large plastic box, like the chrome Range ex speakers you see at CB shops and some truck stops. These things sound great and will take what ever you do to it,if you get pissed and kick it across the cab, wont hurt a thing!

I picked up a box of these at a ham fest a few years ago for $20,sold all but 5 of them for $50 each.

You can stop at a Pilot and get a Ranger for $ 39.00.
I think they are the best out there other than a real Motorola.
The Ranger is the only speaker I can use that I don't get feed back when I turn on my talk back to adjust the echo. All metal case, shielded wire, must weigh 3 lbs. It should last you till you retire from driving.

I've been using a Cobra HG S500 for the past 5 years without a problem, in the work truck.

I am interested in the cobra hg 500 because of its talkback feature. Is there a knob to adjust the volume of the talkback?
