Hi everyone. I am considering starting a small trucking/transportation/hot-shot route between Dallas and Houston. I can also add Austin to the mix. My idea is transporting cars for dealers between Dallas and the port in Houston, but I am not ruling out other types of cargo and locations.
Ideally I would start out with a hot-shot setup: a dually and a trailer that can fit 3-5 vehicles. I would like to do 2-4 runs per week.
I have the means and knowledge to start the company and to operate it effectively, but I need experienced-advice about my route idea, where I would start looking for loads, etc.
Thank you.

Seems to me like you lack that knowledge part, you haul cars before?
There's a car hauling section. -
If you are hauling out of the ports, you need all the interstate requirements as it's the load that matters, not the driver.

Contact your state trucking organization and the companies that you want to work for, you first have to establish a plan to fit a need and if there is no need, then there is no plan.

If you wanna base a hot shot business from Houston, screw the cars. You will have more than you can handle running hot shot to the oilfields. Go west young man.
