I’m an Experienced in the Chicagoland area. Both terminals are out of Crest hill, IL. I’ve already interviewed with OD, passed a road test and started the background. But a goof came up on a crash report from years ago that I was able to fix but I have to reapply but will have the job if I do. But as of late I’ve been intrigued by Dayton Freight and was curious what everyone’s thoughts were.
It seems od has a bigger freight network so probably more opportunities and start times. DF seems like there growing pretty fast, they are starting out at top pay, and I always here about good culture there. Thoughts?

Both in my opinion are great companies from what I’ve seen during my time with LTL. I’ve haven’t heard much bad about either. Only gripe I’ve heard is on the P&D side I know OD doesn’t pay overtime until like 55 hours. But that might have come down I’m not sure. Doing linehaul you won’t have to worry about that tho. I think they are neck and neck as far as benefits and pay. One thing that might sway your decision is OD runs doubles and Dayton is all long boxes. OD has single axles and Dayton has twin screws. This might come in handy in Illinois come winter time. That’s my $0.02. Best of luck in whatever you decide, I really don’t think you can go wrong with either.LtlAnonymous, Bob Dobalina, jmz and 2 others Thank this.

If it were me I would take Od hands down.

Gotcha, can I ask what your reasons would be?LtlAnonymous Thanks this.

I left Dayton 8 yrs ago, after nearly 14 yrs there.
Very decent company, has some issues like all companies do.
If I was to re-enter the LTL occupation, I would get the doubles endorsement and sign on with OD for linehaul.
If I was going back in to do P&D, Dayton would be a slight favorite.LtlAnonymous and Bob Dobalina Thank this. -
I have a friend that works for OD out of that terminal. He seems to like it. Was year on extra board until he got a bit.
Plus their top pay is $.75 cents a mile now.LtlAnonymous Thanks this. -
Anybody know what Dayton Freights trucks are governed at? Camera’s?
LtlAnonymous Thanks this. -
By now almost all are probably auto-shift.
Last I heard, 68 mph on the peddle, 70 mph on cruise.
Not certain on the camera’s, when I left eight yrs ago, they were just installing them.LtlAnonymous Thanks this. -
I'm a linehaul driver for OD and if I weren't here I'd try Dayton before any of the other carriers. Our tractors are governed at 65, 68 and 70 which is determined by the length of the run. Our mileage rate just increased to .7358 and $8.40 for dropping and $8.40 for hooking complete sets. Fueling is $3.60.
LtlAnonymous and singleaxle Thank this. -
70 on pedal and cruise. Outward-facing cameras only, on new trucks with the Bendix Wingman crash avoidance system installed.LtlAnonymous Thanks this.
