Looking at getting a truck to pull a hopper for a local outfit......
truck seems to have all the add ons a guy would ever plan to put on a truck or that i would ever plan on putting
on 1, it looks good, but just sounds weird that it had to have a overhaul at 510k miles.....or is this common from time
to time? The same guy or his dad had a truck like this with a walk in bunk on it that had to be overhauled at 490k miles.....
He sold that tuck as i was on the phone with him asking about this 1.....you think its possible the people dont
change oil or something for both of em to go out with that low of mileage? Or possible that they drive the he11 out of em?
cant imagine having a truck that looks like that and hotrodding it around or just flat not maintaining it.....asked em
why they were selling, if they werent making any money or what and he said yea we make money just trying to downsize.....
he did say he wasnt budging off te price....said he didnt have to sell it was just advrtising it.....doesnt seem priced to
bad to me but ive never bought a truck and am not very knowledgable to truck pricing.....maybe its age akes it not worth
that much, but im looking for a truck with this engine (non accert).
Thanks in advance on any advise![]()

Looooong wheel base. Hope you have plenty of room for your turns.
It looks like a show truck. No APU on it. Cant say much for visors that block 50% of window. -
You'll get better advice on pulling a hopper in this thread . http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...rator/80808-hopper-dump-o-os-and-drivers.html . I can tell you those stacks won't clear a lot of areas you go with a hopper .
-
As stated above those stacks will be a problem, looks like a decent truck but without actually getting underneath it and driving it I wouldn't do anything....some folks will buy sight unseen though...

I think that price is more for show than go! I know everyone wants a nice looking truck, but, I have never seen an ad that said you get paid more per mile based on how much chrome, or how shinny your truck is! 510k is very early for an overhaul. I would be asking why. Was the overhaul done under warranty? What did it get for an overhaul, just liners and pistons? That is not much of a overhaul. Does the engine have any warranty left?
-
I think the reason that you see so many Cats get rebuilt around 500k is that if they had a 500k ESC warranty, they would take it in to cat and see if it needed anything. If a liner was worn or a headgasket was leaking they might just rebuild the whole thing under warranty before it expires. We just bought an 07 379 with 362k on it, C15 cat. We are having the dealer install a headgasket in it cause it was a little wet with oil. This truck had the 500k ESC warranty, so its all free.

yep every add on other than something useful such as wet line and 4way lockers truck will be fairly heavy for a job that your going to be paid by bu. hauled and not per. mile you will be wishing you was pulling a 39' frameless end dump, due to more jobs you can do compared to a hopper

that truck is not worth 52500 ...i was looking for one before i got my kw900l and if u look around u can get one for 43000 or so...

The only thing I'd worry about is the weight. My truck is heavy (just under 17k) and it's a daycab but for what I do weight isn't an issue. However when your pulling a hopper or dump most pay by the bushel or ton so it'll kill you. I've got 2 trucks that if they haul 4 loads a day, 5 days a week can make $500 more each than the one I drive just because of weight. Do you need the sleeper?
The exception is most places we haul grain for, the only weight limit is what the scales will weigh (split weighing is a pain). But if you have to haul legal I'd look for lightweight.
Most like to jump all over looks or how much chrome it's got, if you want it go for it! I like shiny things and it doesn't cost a dime to polish wheels and chrome is cheap. They say looks don't make you money but if my truck is clean and stands out from the crowd I enjoy working more. Also I've noticed the biggest POS truck is the ones they love to DOT. Who's more likely to have violations the guy that takes the time to wash and polish, fix leaks (even if it's only to keep it clean) or the guy that can't even manage to paint his rusty ##### steel wheels? Don't worry about the stacks, just remember their there, I put CB antennas on the mirrors the exact height as the stacks and directly in line. So when the antenna hits the spout I know the pipe will also so I stop or swerve. Been fool proof for years!Last edited: Dec 24, 2009

yea im guna need a sleeper.....i aree with you that DOT IMO would rather yank a nasty rust bucket lookin of a truck over than 1 that doesnt really
look like its ot any issues, thats just common sence to me tho others may feel diffrent about the subject.....
ive called the guy 3 times on it trying to give him my email addy to get inside pics and everytime he keeps telling me he'll call me back n get it
so im kinda getting the drift he doesnt want to even sell the truck now....
ive found a couple of w900's for a better price same engine tranny n gears and not all the chrome that im guna check on after the big day an see what
i can come up with on them.....
thanks for the responces guys....next truck that sparkles my eye ill be asking again
