Who remembers the old Plant City, Florida Truck Stop off Highway 39? Speedee Stop, I think
it was called. I was only a teenager when we stopped in the mid 90's, but I remember
they had the best strawberry shortcake ever. It closed right after the 9/11 attacks and
a kidney donation center is now on the property.

My old friend, you know I do. It used to be a stop for a run from Orlando to Tampa.NavigatorWife Thanks this.

Yep, I knew you would!

I miss it so much. Apparently another retired driver told me it closed because the underground
tankers were contaminated and they didn't want to replace them. Plant City and Lakeland
don't like truckers much, I have the feeling. 40 Acre and the one in Haines City also closed
shortly thereafter. The 301 (old 76) in Tampa is still open as a independent Mobil, but it
doesn't get the traffic it used to. Good deli, though, if you ever get a chance to stop in.navypoppop Thanks this. -
I used to stop weekly at 40 Acres when I had dedicated weekly deliveries to the Publix DC in Lakeland. I also made many nights at the 76 in Tampa too. Wasn't that Cigar City Truck Stop? If not that name sticks in my brain. The Pilot in Haines City was a favorite when it was Haines City Truck Stop. I live about 15 miles south of there now in Winter Haven during the winter months when not on the road with the 5th wheel. Take care old friend.
