The fact that it happened, you stopped, and put out safety triangles. The violation is not having had an equipment failure, but rather that you continued to operate the vehicle FOLLOWING the failure. Now the oft cited 396.7 does cover this, and again why I stated how to handle the situation earlier. However, if the officers saw him leaving a safe parking area to go to the shop he has violated the regulation.

Only if you were loaded with no wiggle room. If you're empty or light a single tire lost is only 6000lbs capacity which really shouldn't put you in the red unless you're running 40k on duals.Another Canadian driver, homeskillet and Trucker61016 Thank this.

What’s the rest of the story... did he get a inspection or did the cop just check for warrants and cut him loose?

I can see that is Pennsylvania Dot representing PA well. This is how we get our money & justify our existence. We are out here keeping the parking lots safe

. I have to keep this one available for training purposes to show them.
. Stay clear of the PA parking lots for service it has been known to be a costly shake down.

Nothing can stop them. I worked with a driver that blew a tire in N Carolina just before a rest area. He was waiting in the rest area for a service truck when a DOT came in and gave him a level I inspection. Wrote up the blown tire and put him OOS. The tire guy even showed up while he was doing the inspection report on his computer, so he knew it would be fixed. Sad.Another Canadian driver, alds, nredfor88 and 7 others Thank this.

I didn't think LEO's could go on private property either, without a warrant. That rumor was dispelled when a farmer friend in Wis. took some cows to a local auction, when he came out, the DOT had a ticket on his window for a lot of money for running red fuel. They dipped his, and all the other trucks tanks on the auction lot.
