I'm kinda free right now. Or unattached as you might say.
I haven't driven since April of this year. The CDL with HM is/was a back up plan.
I believe that even tho the last few months have been very slow in my line of work that after the first of the year I am going to get very busy. -
I'm perplexed, what new rules? Everything posted has been in effect for more than ten years.

The post was meant as an educational tool to ensure all were aware of existing regulations and what could have an impact on their business.
On more than one occassion carriers have been cited for missing supporting documentation due to the fact they sent everything to thei factoring company for processing.
I suppose it just goes to show how deep people have their head in the sand regarding the rules that govern their day-to-day functions.
Be safe. -
Mike screw the companies. I already report everything to them. But the DOT in all states now can easily communicate with each other so there is no reason to need to report to your homestate when you get a ticket from another DOT. What is the frkn point of their using tax dollars to have all the computers if they won't even use them!?

Mike,
You just made a point, for every driver here. NO DRIVER knows ALL the laws and provisions pertaining to the government rules applied to them. If they did, they would all have degrees. (remember they are classified as unskilled labor) The fact that the government passes these laws, and EXPECTS the drivers to keep up with every detail, just proves that there is WAY too much regulation in the industry.
Classify them as skilled labor, give them a degree, then you can expect them to know everything in the industry. Until that happens, drivers will learn the important stuff, the hands on, the safety, but the freaking 500 page book, well there just isn't time for them to learn it all. Oh, and lets not forget to compensate them properly if you are going to require them to know every provision. I think lawyer rates are in order, since that's who writes the freaking laws.
It's getting to the point that you cannot drink a glass of water without breaking some law somewhere.
Rocks, lonewolf4ad and 25(2)+2 Thank this. -
That's exactly what my company said. They said by doing it soon they get to choose which system they use. When it becomes mandatory they will be told by the government which one they have to use.

Actually, it goes to show we're not all complete dumb ##### here. Let's review the statement.....correctly.
We note in this statement, that there is no time limitation on the "previous contact". Nor is there complete clarification on the subject matter of the previous contact.
Therefore, contact can be described as an event that occured 15 years ago. Dealing with excessive equipment violations.
A "pattern" can appear BEFORE a driver is notified of a problem. Throwing things on the dash is habit for many drivers.
This is a pattern, NOT a willful attempt at violating/circumventing the law. Which during an examination of my employers records, can cost him thousands of dollars.
My employer has gone to great lengths to have every drivers logs audited on a weekly basis. Going over my sheets, I see a "pattern" of forgetfulness.
How many thousands of dollars will my employer be fined for failing to fire me, for not totalling my hours at the end of the day ??? Even though every blood sucker in this horse race KNOWS there are 24 hours in every day.
How many violations of this nature will I be allowed in one year. BEFORE the all knowing Government suspends my CDL for good?
And in all seriousness, have any LEO within this forum examined a log book that showed a total of LESS than 24 hours in a single day ?? -
I will go one further.
How many LEO's have made "mistakes or forgetfullness" on reports they fill out each day?
I have had to fill out reports after medical calls and detail everything that happened. I know things are missed. I have read the police report for the same call and they have missed things.
Maybe we should watch for a pattern, then check them and after a few, they need to be let go.dancnoone and bullhaulerswife Thank this. -

While I thanked you for the post. I think we should blame the real culprits....our elected officials. I mearly point out for Mike the short comings of the quoted material.
Not to politicize this thread. But the Senate voted on Health Care today. How many do you think walked over to Senator Byrd, and ask him what his name was and what day it was...before he was allowed to vote?
The same number that gives a rats ### about road safety.
