Rtlo 18913a. Sometimes I have a problem switching gears from high to low (not the side red button splitter, the black high/low one). Already changed the valve on the side and little filter in the back. Changed the shifter knob also.
I assume something is not right inside the transmission. What exactly can be broken in there? Should I even bother trying to find the problem, or would it be just better to get a new reman?
13 speed splitter, trouble switching gears from high to low.

What KIND of problem? I had a delay in the black switch made it hard going into low and slow going into high, that was oil in the valve on the rear, changing filter wont neccessarily fix the valve not working smoothly if its gummed up

Oddly enough I have a issue when I first start out and transmission is cold . Unless I bring rpm up higher to switch from low to high it grinds. After 5 minutes it never does it again all day. I’m curious about that filter idea

Sounds like the range shift piston is hanging up. The o-rings dry up and deteriorate and cause them to be slow. You can get a kit (eaton fuller pn K-2809) for 90 bucks on ebay

I actually changed the valve with the filter inside. The problem is the tranny won't go into low gear mode, so sometimes I have to start in the 6th gear from a stoplightMagoo1968 Thanks this.

Thanks, will check that

If the pressure is correct, about 65 psi, it is not the filter. Plumb up a gauge and check it first thing. Probably just need to put some slicky stuff in both sides of the range piston.jamespmack and Magoo1968 Thank this.

A little different deal but we had a problem with a super 10. It was a 16 or 18 series. It was in a truck purchased used but the trans looked to be a fairly new reman. We had the back off and the synco was not great. We replaced it and all the seals, gaskets and o-rings. The parts in the kit for the range valve shuttle did not fit. We matched up o-rings and replaced them.
Life was good for about a month. Then it would leave in the morning and run a few hours to unload and not shift back to low range. Could find nothing wrong. Tried to order the proper shuttle piston and seals for the cover behind the range piston. Found that was discontinued and had to buy a different, superseded, rear cover - valve assembly. Problem solved.
Do not know if that is your deal but look into that before you spend a lot of money.DUNE-T Thanks this. -
I do too with the 1st shift into high range. As long as i flip it a few times before leaving the yard it's fine.

Thanks I’ll try that
