I like the Sta-Rat tool for sliding tandems. Count the holes you want to slide, stick the Sta-Rat in the next hole. Slide, re-engage pins, remove Sta-Rat.

My favorite gadget, use it all the time.

I have a tool I need to bring from home but have yet to make room for. When my Dad passed he left me a million tools to go with the million I already had. Now I have, well, lots of tools. One thing I cleaned out of his shop was a set of 4' long gigantic bolt cutters. The kind the BEST docks have on hand. These things weigh about #30, they'll cut any bolt you put in front of them. I just can't carry them. They will take up way too much space.

I'll never use them at home though. Maybe I should sell em.

I have a small telescope or single eye scope to see single axle scales at some shippers where I can’t read the numbers for my drives… still just out of range…with scope easily seen.
Good for seeing the sights at a truck stop too ;-)

Someone on ttr recommend years ago to me some rolled up 12-2 wire. Takes no space when stored and strong enough to fish thru something and pull straps or chain. Then roll back up and put away.

    Very handy.

For the last 20 years I always carried a bicycle. Urban style bike, available foldable:
    Crosstown | Montague Bikes
$800 half the price of the equivalent electric. Bag it and strap it to the deck out back, if room is tight.
Used it a lot more than just popping down the road a few miles for a better restaurant or shopping.
And let's not forget, the electric completely defeats the purpose of getting away from the truck stop to start with, eating/shopping healthier.
Even at a leisurely 10-12 mph you can be 3 miles away in 15 minutes.
