Yup, haven't run down that way in years, many years. I doubt it's changed. Now the farthest I run is just south of Albany, and that's too close....

So avoid Idaho. Gotcha.

exactly! My MIL and FIL just sold their home, built in 1979 for over 300k in Orem. Nothing special, small refresh in 2003 in the kitchen.
Bought another house less than 1/3 mile away for 650k. Just up a bit higher on the hill looking over Provo Lake. Insane.

Well I woke up an hour early to check the traffic and there wasn't any along the whole route so I went to bed for another hour. The GW was rougher than I remembered. Didn't someone say they were working on it? Must have hired the best union guys to do it. I didn't hit any traffic until rush hour in MA. Even then I only lost about 20 minutes. I guess you can still call 40 minutes early on time. No I just get to wait for most likely union lumpers to off load me.

Cooling systems are complicated and simple at the same time. It is a system, and all the components need to be correct. Something as simple as a shroud missing or broken can cause problems. Putting in a larger radiator my actually cause more problems. There is a lot of calculations that go into the system. Flow rates across the core is just one. Get outside the optimal range, you lose heat exchange. That leads to over heating.DeereRunner97, Tug Toy, cke and 9 others Thank this.

Right, I'm guessing at this point. The only thing left to replace is the pump and the backing plate. New looking radiator, thermostats are new, fan looks good. That leaves an issue with the pump.
I've washed it out multiple times. This last time I washed it out and it went right back to 220 as soon as I put a load on it.DeereRunner97, cke, Flint1 and 5 others Thank this. -
What are the oil temps when the coolant temp is high?DeereRunner97, Tug Toy, cke and 5 others Thank this.
-
Just over 200. From my understanding how it works the oil temp is calculated vs an actual reading of the temp.
I found a video explaining how to check the water pump. I'll gather up the supplies and fittings I'll need and try to check it one day.
I'm also going to bottle test it to see if I'm getting combustion gasses in the system.
I'm not loosing any coolant either.DeereRunner97, cke, jamespmack and 5 others Thank this. -
If your not having any coolant loss, it would seem the system is closed. If it was something cracked or head gasket, you would have loss.
I think you are possibly chasing the wrong problem. High/overheating can be caused by other things. Over fueling, injector timing, boost pressure.
If memory serves me, didn’t you say that the A/C system does not work well at idle? If you turn on the fan, does it get better?
Curious, what are the first 3 of the engine serial numbers?Last edited: Sep 22, 2021

Sounds like what happened to FL. It started bad in the 80's there. People had been retiring there for decades, but in small numbers, and they adopted the lifestyle of the locals. The big money folks had places in St. Pete, West Palm, and Naples.
Then developers came down from NY and MA, started buying huge pieces of land that was previously used for hunting, farming, or ranching. They built golf course communities, condominium complexes, rows upon rows of tract houses. I watched all this happen as I was growing up. There are whole towns that didn't exist when I was a kid.
All these people didn't care one bit about the states history or heritage. And a lot of them brought their ideology with them as well.
We used to go spelunking, fishing, hunting and camping whenever and pretty much wherever we wanted. All that's gone now, maybe not everywhere, but at least the area where I grew up.
These west coasters that have ruined their states, they'll do the same to AZ, UT, ID and MT. Give it 20 yrs and people that once called these places home, where they were born and raised, won't feel like they belong there anymore.DeereRunner97, Tug Toy, cke and 7 others Thank this.
