I want to use quicken 2009 home and business to track my expenses and income. I set up my business, but want to make sure I am on the right track before I spend hours entering all the data from the last few months. Is anyone else using quicken to track expenses?

    Thank you.

dmg... You might also look into Quick Books, they have a free version, Simple Start, that will do everything except keep a product inventory or payroll. It is not a limited trial or a scaled back venison.

I've been using QuickBooks for several years now. I think its just the business version of Quicken.

Just do yourself a major favor.

Keep the expense catagories simple. Do not try to be detailed on the ones you use.

Roadmedic, I am also in the process of using Quicken 2012 Home & Business. Can you tell me if I am on the right track here? I created a separate cash expense account for each of the following; Accounting, Communication, Fees, Fuel, Insurance, and 9 other categories. Basically I copied what Kevin Rutherford said to do for his "Profit Gauges" online program, or at least I'm trying to. I am completely ignorant on this subject, but I can't stand the thought of someone else doing something that I can do myself...eventually. Any help you, or anyone else, can offer would be greatly appreciated!

If you are a self employed person, go to the IRS form schedule C and look at how they have the expenses. Keep yours in basically the same.

I have a client that separated all of the maintenance by type. Bedding maintenance. Radio Maintenance, Tire maint etc....

I finally got him to just make an entire section called that and put it in the section with a sub total. Makes the return a much easier endeavor.
