What the best replacement turbo for a modified 12.7 that’s pushing a borgwarner 171702 beyond it limits.

I do not have a answer for exact part number. But if your making that kind of power a 17702 is over speeding or coming apart. You need to get your tuner involved and talk and figure out exactly what fits your engine, work, terrain, driving habits, expectations.

At that level advise or recommendations from a message board is not were I would be for info.

Part numbers mean nothing at that level, might end up having one built and matched from numerous part numbers.

What James said. A 78 & 80mm are the next sizes up if that helps you any.

Ever had it dynoed? How much power did your tuner tell you it should be putting out at the crank or to the ground? Without knowing that it's hard to say what you need but if I had to guess you could start with an 80mm cold side and 1.32 or 1.45 A/R and go from there. Exhaust turbines are easy to swap out and only run about 300 shipped so once you have the cold side you can play around with different A/Rs until you find the size that fits your operation best.

What are your EGT's on a long pull? Are you pushing over 50psi? I've heard the 171702 is out of its efficiency range once you get past mid 40s. I run the same turbo on a hot Mack and thinking about swapping to a 1.45 ar

Also if you go to a 78 or 80 and still keep the 1.32 your egt will drop a bit. @ProfessionalNoticer I would do what he says and experiment with diff exh housings on a bigger turbo

Yes I’m running about 44-50 psi depending on load and driving style.

I want to know more about the Modifications. Don’t have an answer. I do have a 12.7 though.

There is no one cookie cutter option. You need to build for your application.

All my trucks are built and specked for the work and environment we live and work in.
