Trucking opportunites in Rapid City, South Dakota?

Easy. Contact Dakota post to set up a mailbox. Contact dmv is Sioux Falls to make an appointment. Show up in Sioux Falls the night before and stay at a motel. Go get your license and boom your a South Dakota resident. Yes you can also do hazmat.

When I did it they did not require appointments. I set up my mailbox did the dmv thing the same morning and was done with everything before lunchtime.

 

Ps. Motel 6 is within walking distance of the dmv for 50 ish per night or there is also a motel called the sleep inn that is located directly behind the dmv. There is also a gas station with a Quiznos and a casino in the same parking lot if your looking to limit needing to pay for rides.

 

I would get SD residency and then search for a good paying job from anywhere else if I were in your shoes. SD wages aren’t the best because of the cost of living, unless someone knows of a gem I’m not aware of.

Some of those I listed probably won't be the best for you, since you won't have a house or apartment and just live in the truck.
Go with Trillium so you won't need to keep reapplying every time you come to the states for a few months.
Some of the OTR companies will be ok though, as long as you have a decent truck to live in.

Rapid City is not the highest paying place for Trucking. That said, it should be fine considering what you want to do. I second getting your residency at the RV escapes next to the Flying J at exit 61. You could even probably park at the Flying J and set up a mailing address at the RV escapes. I think they charge something like $150 a year. They will get your mail and hold it for when you come through. I live in Spearfish and do regional run's for Menard's and am home weekly for a full day Saturday and Sunday. For you I would recommend Britton Transport out of Grand Forks, ND. They are small enough that I am sure they would have no issue with what you want to do and would likely hire you back when you came back. Brittontransport.com

 

Rapid City and the surrounding area is fairly inexpensive I think. I rent a 3 bedroom house from my boss for $900 a month. Probably am getting a discount because I work for him. A lot of people are moving to South Dakota from blue states. Someone told me Rapid City has grown by 10,000 people since Covid began. Rapid City was about 70,000 people pre-covid. I know let's of houses and apartments are going up in the area.
