Oh really? I didn't realize that. So, basically anyone with the same kind of truck can drive off with anyone else's truck, I guess. Seems like a huge security problem!
Mysterious entry into my truck, and truck moved without my permission.

Wow, that seems like a huge security risk! I'm surprised to find out how many people probably have the same key that I do and can drive away with my truck and my load anytime they feel like it.John Joel Glanton and Trucker61016 Thank this.

Yeah, that's true, but I always felt pretty safe leaving it there because at least 15 other trucks are there every night, as well as motorhomes, etc. I've come to find out that any truck manufacturer will only use a handful of different keys and then just make tons of copies of those and pass them out to all of the people who buy a truck. Hard to believe, right?nredfor88, NavigatorWife and OldeSkool Thank this.

When i first got my pete i could start it with a blank car key and open the doorlocks with a standard flathead screwdriver.....not so much anymore but it aint hard to start and move a rig.NavigatorWife and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

Not trying to derail the thread, but did you get a different truck or did you get your Pete fixed after your accident?NavigatorWife, God prefers Diesels, Trucker61016 and 1 other person Thank this.

I can't count the number of times my pete keys opened the door of someone who locked themself out of a pete or Kw. I just figured that the newer trucks had evolved into a little more sophistication.

Got mine fixed luckily or unluckily depending on how you view it. It was just shy of being totaled though being down for 7 weeks without any LoR pay from insurance was a real punch in the balls days after a 10k repair. But its back up and i survived. Actully making some decent money now that i have a goodly chunk of the debt i took to keep it rolling paid back.NavigatorWife, xsetra, God prefers Diesels and 7 others Thank this.
