I suggest at least 8 or 12 of these

and 8 or 12 of these
Steel Corner Protector w/ Chain Slot

 

I forgot about those. I have ten of each. Exact same brand even.

 

I got most of it local, and order the rest online.

I actually prefer loads that require chains, but I don't get them nearly as often as I'd like.

 

If it doesn't already have one, for God's sake get a dump valve.

 

Have you tried using old 4" strap as edge protection/chain softeners?
if you cut them into 3-4' lengths you can roll them up and get a few layers of strap for protection and they don't eat up a lot of space as they stack well.

Probably want to cut them with metal shears as the dirt in them will ruin a pair of scissors in a flash.

 

I only carry 8 chains. I don't think I've used more than 5 at a time.

 

No. But I'm about to bring in ten new Kinedyne straps, and I'm going to retire some of my current ones. Sounds like a good tip.

 

Two loads I needed less than ten. The rest, I wished I had more!
