ANYONE WITH SOME GOOD ADVICE? I went to PREMIER truck driver training school with CRENGLAND back in Feb 2008 I graduated the school and then went on with CRENGLAND and drove with a owner operator for 4-6 weeks putting in 15,000 miles. My next step was to take a few computer tests for the company and then get my truck. But at that time My Mother was diagnosed with cancer I had to go home to help her, so I had to put my career on hold. My Mom had passed away in Nov 09. I wanted to go back to CRENGLAND but they want me to go back to the CDL training school and pay 1,300 dollars again. I was not happy to say the least. I had already put in my time and drove 15,000 miles (verifiable). Why would I pay twice? I wanted to find a company who would let me go to orientation and go out with a trainer for 4-6 weeks as before and then be issued my truck.. Do you have any advice for me? I don't see how going to the cdl school is going to benefit me I already have my CDL and 15,000 of experience, I drove through white outs in Idaho and Rain storm in Portland I been all over the north west and Midwest with CRENGLAND. I don't need to go to school I need to make money. VERY DISCOURAGING INDUSTRY seems to me the only way your going to get hired it to lye to them, if your honest you will be looked over. Thanks for you help or suggestions. John

If you can try to find a O\O who has a leased fleet somewhere that will hire you. I don't know about you but, DON'T TRY RETURNING TO C.R. ENGLAND. 15,000 miles ain't much to try and land a job with, not with million milers losing their jobs at other co's right now.
Good luck, FedEx is hiring near me, so they may be hiring near you as well. Try your states online unemployment classified ads. -
Yes I know 15,000 ain't much, but Dang it is more then someone coming out of CDL training has. I'm not trying to go backward, but forward, thanks Mister G

Jersey Cowboy,
I know you feel discouraged as I would feel so being charged twice for anything. Your 15,000 miles of experience is now NOT RECENT being that it is nearly 2 years old. That being the case I do not believe that very many companies will take you on without you forking over some benjamins. Perhaps some of the unpopular mostly despised companies like Sw**t, CR*T, etc., are your only choices. If none these 'training' companies will hire you, you will have to reinvest to save your initial investment in your future.
I don't agree with lying to any company. If you have to lie to them, they're not worth the sacrifice of your integrity to work for them. If those companies want liars to work for them, then that's what they'll get. If one company won't hire you because you are honest to them, move on to the next company and the next until you are hired because you are honest. Be determined, don't lie.
Please accept my sincere condolences to you on behalf of your mother. You surely must have loved her dearly.

Thanks SpeedyDelivery,
Yes I could not sacrifice my Mother for a job, My family is more important to me specially my Mom. She spent her whole life caring for us and encourageing us, she never asked for nothing special only to care for her family & Husband. I'm Glad I got to spend the last year with her. She will be deeply missed.
My experience with the trucking industry as a whole, Not the drivers, but behind the scenes need a whole new makeover. From Top to bottom. They make it so hard for you to start, they make it hard for you to survive, they make it hard for you to quit, then they make it hard for you to start over. The industry as a whole is a rip off. The Drives are the ones who suffer at the hands of the companies and the DOT. I Really think we need to have a truckers strike to settle who is the boss the industry or the DRIVERS! The min. pay per mile should be at least .40 to start with. Let the Big shots of the company give up some of there 401K money and pay the drivers fairly. They are making millions of dollars saying they are starving. Those Guys will never see hard times, they got tons of money socked away. The industry as a whole needs some new life in it, it is a mess. What do you hear on the electonic log books? are they going to be required by all companies? Jerseycowboy -
You might give Wiley Sanders a call. They are located in Troy, AL but drive the 48 and Canada. They are still hiring and might put you in orientation. Orientation is 10 weeks but you drive as a team. They pay .14 per mile while training but I am in my 4th week of training with them and have been averaging $700 weekly take home after taxes. Fleet is older KWs (I am driving a 2001 with 1.5M miles), but well maintained. They have quite a bit of their own freight as they also have companies recycling lead/acid batteries and plastics.
You will need a hazmat endorsement before being hired though. A passport and TWIC card help also.
From all that I have read, this company seems to be one of the better ones in the industry. -
Thanks Ukdon,
Do they have a website? or do you happen to know there phone number? I would like to contact them. I can get a hazmat, and I do have a passport already. Thanks let me know if you need any info from me.
