Paying $80,000-90,000 for a 2016 semi truck with 800,000 miles?

brand new drives and steer, new 5th wheel, about 20k work done on Def system in 2018, and I have about 20k of work done to it as well.

Heck about 20 months ago my boss bought a new loaded up 389 pete for a driver at about 180k ...payments for the driver were around 3200 a month .
About 5 weeks ago driver tested positive for meth and fired .
Boss wanted nothing to do with that truck immediately fully detailing it and sent to auction with 230k on the clock ....it brought 170k .

 

This morning I had two people contact me to ask if I want to sell the trucks I just took delivery on and are ready for signs to go on.

their offer makes a good and substantial profit, the trucks they are replacing are in great shape and haven’t been rotated out yet, so …

 

A year ago it would be worth 30k to actually move it so at 50% inflation you could sell for 45k and move it quickly. I’d probably go for 100% and sell it at 60k. Start at 65k and come down to 60. Or, you might get lucky and get a full price offer.

 

I had an opportunity to pickup an FLD a few years ago for $5k. It did need a little work but nothing serious, clean 1 owner that had ALL maintenance records and receipts. He could have easily got $15k for it but just wanted it to go quick amd offered it to me and a couple others before putting it on the market.

I REALLY wish I had bought it, even if all I did was put a few $k into it and run it up the road and back every few months. Between older truck getting more valuable andbthe sky high used market, I probably could have sold it for close to $50k today. Would have been a hell of an investment... But I really didn't have a use for it, and who in thier right mind could have guessed the market would look like it does now.

 

Man that would be a super tough call I think... Would you say what kind of percentage profit you would make?
