Stephens Pipe & Steel, Greensboro, NC, division.
I was working thru a Temp to Perm Local Driver Service.
Night crew loaded Trailers from 17:00 to 23:59.
No Strapping by Loaders, not their job.
Drivers strapped/secured Load.
"I'm sure" there were parts of Loads that no needed securement (center of trailer), YET for Drivers' Sake, "weird stuff happens", and all flatbed trailers had a few dozen rachet straps in side boxes.
MY SECURED LOADS never faltered.
Fun part of some loads were having the customer with tractor/forklift remove/replace pieces to access their pieces.
"The more the pieces are handled", well, usually were not a problem.
- - I had one incident created by another driver in that he took MY load and was called a bit later after yard supervisor arrival. Driver was 2 hours out, so I had a nice paid break. Load securement, observed when back, equalled my preference.- -
Some Companies, no matter how large or how many locations, whined (whinged) about repairs needed and some few stated "we'll repair it when you return", where I usually stated "It no leave till repaired"!

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) shared a glaring load securement issue as their “Violation of the Week.”
On November 1, Georgia DPS took to Facebook with a single photo captioned “Violation of the Week – Can you spot the violation?”
Several Facebook users took advantage of the Georgia DPS post to poke a little fun at the situation. Check out some of the comments below.
- Did he nail the pallets to the deck of the trailer? Lol
- He’s got the new Bluetooth straps
- Yall can’t see the ghost straps????
- NOT A SINGLE STRAP ABSOLUTELY INSANE LOL
- Clear straps are not DOT approved
- Aww the good old 2G method of securement, god and gravity
- Clearly nobody did the “that’s not going anywhere” check
- Makes unloading easy
