Thanks I definately will. The reason I am doing it is because if you look at what a new truck costs, and what a royal piece of garbage the new emmissions standards have turned them into, I think this is really the cost effective route, and I get the truck I want.

I mean a new truck off the dealers lot will cost you 135K + expecially if you want a big bunk and big power.

I am looking at a truck right now they want 14,500 for, I figure spend 8K rebuilding the motor myself, another 8 buying a reman 18 speed, figure another 4 going through the rear ends, and probably another 4 grand in paint because im going to paint it in Imron.

Then I figure another 2,500 for all new brake cans, liners and drums, and about 6,000 for a set of tires.

Then 2,500 for a set of nice seats.

That is 49,500 to rebuild the truck end to end.

So In other words for what it would cost to buy a new truck, I can rebuild 2 and still have money left over.

Now I do know it will cost more than that, I figure by the time I am all said and done I will have close to 60K in it, but what can you get for 60K today? like an 05 or an 06 with an Acert Emmisions engine in it with 500K+ on it. I think doing it my way is a better deal.

    MrBeast,
I have a 435hp 3406e in my 1994 truck. My serial number is 5EK02306 and arrangement number is 109-8791. Those two numbers ought to allow the experts to give you an idea. I just overhauled it at 999500mi and the short list of differences is:
-The 435 has two piece aluminum/steel pistons, 550 has two piece steel/steel, I think the compression ratio is the same, i think.
-The camshaft is different, I think the intake/exhaust lift is the same for both motors but their duration is different. I also believe the injector lobe is different lift and duration.
-And of course injectors, turbo and ecm

Anytime. I have a 97 W900L with the 475/490 E model and was looking to possibly add a bit more to it.

The engine can be rebuilt to the 550 specs, but if I was going to do it I'd use a marine cam instead of a truck cam. Injectors would be 57's or 58's, turbo would be a hybrid non-wastegated depending on power level wanted. ECM would be reflashed with either a PDI stage 1 tune or a old 5DS 600 HP brakesaver file which I know where to get this done. Exhaust manifold would be a PDI manifold that's been extrude honed, Pittsbutgh Powers manifold cost a a little less, but will not flow as well. I'd do a stock PDI manifold over PP first. With these modifications you'd have good fuel mileage with plenty of horsepower. PM me if interested in ECM changes and I'll help you out.

All of that is fine but I have a 99 KW with a 2WS 550 thats putting 562 hp to the ground. All I have done is put a Bourg warner turbo and 5230 fuel codes and I'm getting 6 to 6.8 mpg.

    Cat 3406 @ 550hp Serial#5EK87748 Vs Cat 3406 5EK98028 @ 365hp?
Can I take the 365hp and drop it in the 550hp truck and still use the 550hp Computer on it?

I don't know, but it would seem to me to get to 550 from 365 that there is a lot more difference than just a tune. Like injectors and turbos to start with, and quite possibly pistons and cam and other hard parts.

    cke Thanks this.
