Hello everyone! I am new to the trucking business. I have my CDL, and I just recently purchased my first 18 wheeler. I signed it on with my sisters logistics company & it runs under her authority. But so far my weekly settlements are not even enough to cover my fuel cost, let alone my monthly truck payment. Also, I find that by checking the ELD app my truck to be sitting somewhere for up to four days at a time and not on the road.
Is this normal at first? The truck has been running almost 2 months now. Shouldn't I be making enough money to pay for gas & payment?
Should I find a different company to sign it onto? And if so, does anyone know any logistics company and the Southeast region (Mississippi Gulf Coast) that also provides a driver? I have a full-time job, and cannot drive the truck myself.
Should I sell the truck, if so, how?
Any other options on how to make money with the truck?
Thank you for any help and advice in this situation!

    pumpkinishere Thanks this.

I’m not sure the numbers you guys agreed to when signing on with your sister but if you’ve been running for 2 months and can’t afford the fuel your doing something wrong.

You get 25 or she does? Cause if you get 25, i want to commend your sister for being so evil shed willingly fleece her own kin like that

Also, youre absentee owning it? Thats probably the bigger problem, you bought a boat anchor thinking you could make money on something your not willing to do yourself, sell it now

25% to who? Your sister? Why is your truck sitting for 4 days? Who is driving your truck? There are so many questions to your situation. But in no shape or form is this the norm. If so you would see the interstates with no 18 wheelers. Are you paying the driver and how much are you paying him or her?

Saw that after the fact, its still the problem.
And this is a conversation you should be having with your sister and driver

I recommend selling the truck. Your sister is not helping you.

OR, lease on where you can make enough to pay your bills.
If you can't earn enough to pay the costs of running the truck, What do you think will happen when the truck needs a repair.

Goodness who’s business idea was this? For you to go purchase a semi and not be the driver? Sounds to me like you got yourself a driver who doesn’t want to work, may of needed just a place to stay.
