That is the one thing I WILL NOT DO! I'll be a little shy of 1,000,000 miles when I hang up the keys. Traveling will be the last thing on my mind!! Lol
If you could, would you work 6 months on / off

For oilfield workers, a common schedule is 14 straight days on duty, then 7 days off duty.
As I am the terminal manager for a small oil services company here in Midland TX., I generally don’t take the full 7 days off.The_vett, austinmike and Pamela1990 Thank this. -
That's my thoughts for during my "golden" years. Be able to run when I want some extra money. Avoid the winter storms. Add to my retirement money. All while doing something I enjoy.
Trucking is actually the first job I miss doing. Sitting here going through this chemo crap. I want to be out there driving instead of all home. I have never missed going into any of my office jobs.The_vett, noworrez, Pamela1990 and 8 others Thank this. -
I was kind of analyzing this myself the other day. Truck driving definitely gets in your blood. But it’s strange in a way. You get out there, we get into situation‘s that are sometimes challenging and difficult and frustrating. Four wheelers irritate us half the day, usually at least once per day if not multiple times we find ourselves in traffic jams, we often work on little sleep, we often have to rotate our sleep schedule etc,
But for whatever reason, after I’m home about three days I start missing it. Lol I wanna get back out there.The_vett, noworrez, Pamela1990 and 5 others Thank this. -
My goal is to be a world traveler visit as many countries I can be for my day is over. There are some beautiful things to see on planet I haven't seen

Yep, I’m already planning on talking to my employer about taking 4 months off per year. I don’t need to, nor do I want to work all year.The_vett, Pamela1990, Rideandrepair and 4 others Thank this.

I did that kinda with ups seasonal.
I would drive a truck october-the end of January.
They would ask me to come back every year for "peak" at top rate. Rest of the year I collect my rents and get paid to watch sports.
Gave up the cdl so I wouldn't be tempted to go drive again but still found myself driving for the state last year in a van because noone had the balls to drive the rona people around......the hazard pay was super nice lol. Paid way more than ups.Last edited: Nov 13, 2021

OTR owner ops for years used to go home for thanksgiving and come back out in March. 4 months. I didn’t because there used to be incredibly stupid money to be made running northern Canada in the winters.
Most, given the choice, will be fair weather drivers. The biggest paying loads I’ve ever pulled always came right before Christmas. But what I did do, during the regular season was 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off.The_vett, Pamela1990, Rideandrepair and 2 others Thank this. -
I usually lay out from about December 1st until March 1st. Works for me
The_vett, Pamela1990, Rideandrepair and 1 other person Thank this.
