    Chinatown, He was in Navy for 10 years as a mineman, been overseas more than home so after 10 years he went reserves and after 5 years he got a recruiter offer for active duty and now 3 years later they do not have any position for a Senior Chief. When he went civilian 8 years ago he first worked for ConWay Freight, then Coastal Transport and SouthEastern Freight. He has maintained his class A while in Navy and he'll just have to renew his hazmat.

    Tell him to rethink that 1099 job. The pay may look good, but that pay is before withholdings. He has to do the withholdings himself and file taxes every quarter.

    Outside of the 1099-MISC, you may need to file your estimated taxes quarterly if you will pay more than $1,000 in taxes for the fiscal year. All 1099 employees pay a 15.3% self-employment tax. There are two parts to this tax: 12.4% goes to Social Security and 2.9% goes to Medicare.

    you going to disagree and say that 95% of Chicago based 1099 trucking companies owned by foreigners are great places to work and have the highest moral standards in the industry?

    I just worked for Pigeon. Tell your son RUN! as fast as he can. In fact, do not go to any Chicago based trucking company. They are all scam artist. Trucks are terrible, dispatcher is terrible, and they will steal your money! They owe me money right now and I did everything right when I left them. 2 weeks notice all that and.they still owe me.! Run!

    Thanks for your answer. Since I found out about them I convinced my Son to forget them and he was fortunate enough to get a job with Estes. What a relief for me that he listened and went with a reputable company.
