Are there any free resources I can use to make sure I am getting a good rate?
I am a new O/O and received what i think is a good rate. It was offered off top from the broker so I did not negotiate anything. However, with this route I have to go through mountains, up steep hills, and there will soon be snow. I am thinking I may need to negotiate more pay, but I'm not sure how much more and what to base it on.
Also, for working Holidays, should I be asking for more? and how much more is reasonable

Loadboards have the average rate for the lane. It costs more than the standard membership.Dino soar, shooter19802003 and truckvet Thank this.

Thanks! and do those take into account weather and Holidays?feldsforever and shooter19802003 Thank this.

Dat gives last 2 or 4 weeks, depending on subscription. Weather and holidays…Just as any reason- it is up to you to determine your negotiation. Resources such as DAT are just a guide and do not factor special circumstances.

It's crazy to let some random algorithm dictate your rates. You're the motor carrier. Run for what you need or don't haul it.

The "average" rates on ITS are a joke. Saw one yesterday. It was identical in every way and posted twice by the same broker. The bs number ITS was claiming to be the "rate" was almost $300 different.WannaGoTrucks2016, D.Tibbitt and truckvet Thank this.

Here is the foundation to what you should be asking for …
How much does it cost you to run the truck?WannaGoTrucks2016 and LoneRanger Thank this. -
@Ridgeline is right. First get your numbers this includes how much you want hourly.
now cost to run your truck + hour to throw chains on and hour to take off.
you now have a base rate of what you need to survive. What is on top of that is profit. Make sure you include your salary In your base rate.WannaGoTrucks2016, NorthEastTrucker, shooter19802003 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Could be. I have DAT I don't have the premium plan, but they had the premium plan for a month for free. And on the top it had the average for the past 90 days. It was actually accurate for the area I was running.shooter19802003 Thanks this.

I heard that before about DAT. Maybe they're a little better than ITS. Too bad DAT doesn't have as much flatbed posts as ITS. ITS has become practically unusable for me. It's so bad I'm considering closing the account at the end of the year.GYPSY65, xsetra and shooter19802003 Thank this.
