I apologize in advance for calling you out on this, too, but you are simply wrong on this issue, as well.
The standard EV home charging system, as you’ve been told here by people that ACTUALLY HAVE ONE, is a 40 amp, 220V circuit. The same size as the circuit for an electric water heater, an electric oven/stove, and your clothes dryer. Not something that most people have in their garage, but every house has several. Yes, wiring in a 220 circuit is needed for charging an EV in a reasonable amount of time, no, it’s not a big deal.
As far as charging costs, the US EPA has come up with this nifty little calculation that converts electric energy to miles per gallons: the MPGe for miles per gallon equivalent. The new Ford F-150 “lightning” EV is expected to operate at about 70 MPGe.
So, if we do some fun math and assume a 250,000 mile life of the vehicle, and assume 20MPG for the standard Ford 150, the cost of gasoline for its life time will be $37,500. The equivalent “lightning” version will cost $10,714 to run. A $26,000 and change difference in fuel costs.chrisdab, rogueunh and gentleroger Thank this. -

Also, I own a F150 and I’ve owned a Tesla, you can charge the car on your little 15 amp wall socket if you so choose.

A special Megawatt Charging System (MCS) will be needed to charge a Tesla Semi, which is a whole different beast. It has to charge at direct current in order to not add weight to the semi.

The exact charging specs for the mega charger aren’t released yet, but speculation is as high as 600 amps at as much as 800 Volts. THAT is a big circuit.
The whole quick charging race for EV’s is really heating up. The Chinese EV brand Xpeng released their new global SUV “G9” with a new graphene based solid state battery system. They demonstrated a FIVE MINUTE charge time for 200 KM (about 125 miles) range last week. At a charge rate as high as 670 amps at 800 Volts.
