Those old Volvo Autocars would put a Western Star to shame in the durability department. The new highway trucks should just stay on pavement IMO.

Nobody doing my work would buy a hwy truck.
Volvo has a line of heavy duty trucks, if going Volvo, it would be a VNX series, or if Freightliner a 122.Oxbow Thanks this. -
Whatever you can get right now

Mack Anthem or Volvo VNL, the current T680 I drive was apparently built on the first Monday after a four day weekend of keggers, coke and strippers, the build quality and fit/finish makes a Chrysler K-car look good (for those old enough to remember).
JolliRoger, Elroythekid and Pamela1990 Thank this. -
Hey Pamela, sorry for being late to reply but I have read your recent post about your new truck specs and figure you have done well for your application. I would like to know what gear ratio you went with just to satisfy my own curiosity. I do believe the MX13 would have been an acceptable option in your application with the correct gear ratio, but I’m in now way trying to change your mind about the choice of the Cummins engine.
As to my specs, I spec for efficiency, 80,000 lbs gross is the most weight I will ever pull and that is probably only 40% of the loads I’ll pull in a year.
2020 W990 76” mid roof sleeper 265” wheel base
MX13 455 hp 1550/1750 ft lbs
Paccar 12 spd auto shift
2.79 gears
I took delivery of this truck in late May of 2019, it is my second new Kenworth with the MX13 engine, both have met my expectations for reliability and exceeded expectations for pulling power. I do live on the western side of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, but I am OTR so I don’t spend the entire week crossing back and forth over them. I spend 3 weeks on the road and one week at home.
I wish you all the best in you and your sisters new venture as owners, I think you’ll do well as you seem to have some common sense, maturity and the ability to use that head on your shoulders. Keep us updated, and I hope you know some of us expect pictures when those new trucks show up.Pamela1990 Thanks this. -
Thanks Larry!
I went with 4.10s.
My loads are consistently 106,000 lbs, up to 145,000 lbs, and steep steep terrain is my normal. -
I plan to put money down on a Tesla Semi. I think it would be the most profitable vehicle for O/O.
Pamela1990 Thanks this. -
Doing city P&D?

What sort of range are you predicting to get out of a charge in real world use? -
I’m sure it would be an amazing rig if you were home nightly. I just can’t imagine trying to get out of the bush with 2 sets of triples and a long ### extension cord hanging off the back.Pamela1990 and AModelCat Thank this.
