The pre-trip is the most difficult, but I wouldn't stress about it because you'll learn that in cdl school with hands on experience.
Just memorize the answers on the rest of the tests.

Record yourself reading the information and play it back several times a day.

I felt really prepared to take the written test when I went. I used cristcdl.com to study and they have different tests specifically for each state.

Hey DaniMae, I have a similar problem as well as time constraints, too much to do with little time. However, currently working warehouse nights, it's what I refer to brainless work, so I'm using ( Audio CDL Handbook ) which is practically identical to NYS CDL manual. What I did was take each chapter, right click and download the audio in it's own chapter folder, downloaded each category I need (No bus stuff) and transferred the folders onto my phone. So now, I don't even need WiFi signal to listen to each chapter and can put it on repeat chapter to listen over again. I don't have much standing still time so this really helps me. It actually is sinking in, for me, at least. When you listen follow your state manual to see how close they are. If you need, I can expand on how I did the downloading stuff. I made separate folders so I could keep it separate from all my music. Good Luck.

What I did was read the section, then memorize the answers to the questions at the end of each part. Those are the questions that will be on the test. Good Luck -

    Excellent advice!

You can take the tests at the DMV in any order and all at once or on multiple days. I did it once for Class B school bus and then all the others for semi to get my A permit.

I do 3 tests at a time. Read the section once fairly quickly just to get familiar with the scope and main points. Then read it again more carefully. Pay special attention to any statement with a quantity: distance, weight, volume, time. The take the practice tests on this site and/or CDL Prep app until you get 90-95% consistently. May take 10-20 tests. Do the same for another one or two sections. Re-read the DMV manual sections of having difficulty.

Should take about one day per section. Two days each if only doing it in evenings. Took me four days to pass all my school bus tests. Took 3 days to prep for all my Class A endorsements. Hazmat was the only one I just squeaked by on. It isn’t rocket science. There are only so many multiple choice questions that can be formulated on the DMV text, so the practice tests are very good examples.

Memorize any numbers you find in the book. All other questions are common sense.

I passed with using the free app CDL prep. It has a blue steering wheel. My school recommended we study that. All the questions was the same as the dmv test. Good luck!

CDL prep and DMV genie are both good apps for that
