What is your annual fuel % of your Gross Revenue..
Based on only a 2 month calculation I am looking at 39.5% fuel usage.
I sure hope this can be improved upon.

I did my year end paperwork this week and mine is 35%. What sucks is I made $75,000 dollars less in 09' then what I made in 08'.

What does fuel percent of gross revenue tell you without knowing how much gross revenue is?
$1/mile hauling used to divide into 4ths. Fuel, driver, legal, owner.
$1/mile rates with fuel over $1.00/gal and that won't work to well though.
Per/hr hauling, contracting, different trucks, the percentages and figures will vary, but the net line is usually close, close to the red line..

34.9% before fuel surcharge.
10.0% after fuel surcharge.
I likes me my fuel surcharge.7mouths2feed Thanks this. -
Whats a fuel surcharge?

359 You make a valid point. I was only curious about how much of a owners gross revenue is going up in smoke and just how mine compared. Be it due to less per/mile pay or poor fuel economy. Obviously its a relative number. 30% of $100k or 30% of %300k is still 30% of whats not coming back to the one that deserves it.

I pull tankers and gross 79,000-80,000 lbs. 68.28% of the time. (31.72% empty)
Fuel cost before FSC: 31.627%
Fuel cost after FSC: 13.122%
Revenue per running odometer mile in 2009: $1.13 to the truck.
FSC per running odometer mile in 2009: $0.257mouths2feed and Big John Thank this. -
It's a very handy metric, like cap rate or gross rent multiple are for other types of businesses. It gives you a snapshot of two of your most critical operating numbers, revenue, and fuel cost.
Back in the 1970's my truck got under 4 mpg and fuel was still under 25% of revenue. Now at 6 mpg it's over 30%. That right there speaks volumes about the changes in the industry.7mouths2feed and Big John Thank this. -
What kind of rates were you getting back then. A friend of mine said when he quit in 1981 pulling a dump he was getting $1.15 and fuel was a lot cheaper. I also know interest rates were a lot higher back then on everything then they are now. I had a local guy that bought a new Peterbilt in 81' and his payments were like $1800 a month and 17 or 18%. He kept that truck for about 20 years before getting rid of it so I guess it paid for it self. -
After fuel surcharge mine is at 20%. I average 5mpg in my big Pete. I ran 83,893 miles in 09' and those are odometer miles including extra miles to run to the shop, home etc... at $1.31 a mile to the truck. I hope things get better in 2010 or I am going to sell out and get me a 800# and be come a broker. lol
